that's an extreme example of real estate pricing, but NYC taxes have got to be figured in there too regarding un-affordability.
the northeast has all kinds of insane high taxes-one reason many of us left. unaffordability

Correct. Which includes cities in Massachusetts. The point of the article is that the trumps are seemingly clueless. Rewarding the schools with the highest budgets with accolades that they don't need, while cutting funding for the districts that need money the most.

Later in life, Seuss regretted his earlier work, which was often propaganda for the war effort. Denigrating minority populations wasn't considered racist until society was forced to realize that it is.

that was during WWII with the Japanese characters. Understandable, if not desirable.
A very great part of America used racial slurs to denigrate 'the Japs'.

I understood this as a kid -war makes everything jingoistic.
Society realized it too, it was just accepted in context of war.

The problem with PC is it focuses solely on a flaw. As you say he was enlightened enough to regret his drawings
and his work was mostly just fun -but that Sneeches book was a good way to reach kids.

The PC crowd willingly ignores these complexities in favor of simplistic damnation of the man and his works.
They do that a LOT. ( See Jefferson/Washington/Columbus/etc)

Look I almost moved up to Quincy. I went over budgets with a girlfriend i was dating, and we
seriously tried to make it work.
One reason I didn't move was because the company I work for is in an independent contractor relationship -
and they will not hire independent contractors in "blue states", since we don't get benefits

So I would have had to quit my job to move there..really didn't want to do that and loking back I'm glad I didn't.

Okay Stretch, I read the entire letter and agree with you and everyone that the racism angle is batshit crazy. So what I've concluded is: neither you, me, Melania or the Obamas think the book is racist and should be banned from schools. And that it's still dishonest to bring Michelle into an argument that's between Melania and Liz because as far as we know, Michelle never spoke out against any Seuss book.

Quincy is low rent compared to Cambridge, home to both Harvard and MIT as well as 12 other world class universities.
It is one of the richest cities in the country, not par for any course.

I noticed that hyper-hypocrite Althea ignores the fact that none of the gifted books were Seuss' wartime propaganda works, that the same librarian apparently found Seuss' work acceptable before Trump took office, and DEMOCRAT FDR locked up American citizens in camps because of their ethnic heritage.
