Daily KOS has a "TARGET LIST"

He had also been reported to the Sheriff's department 16 times for making threats to kill people, including bloggers, radio personalities, people at the college, as well as this very Congressperson.

There weren't just "signs" the guy was dangerous. He made sure people knew.

wtf? no wonder the sheriff starting blaming anyone but his department in that news conference

Who was it that recently called the other side enemies and said that "if they bring knives to the fight, we bring guns"?

Seriously, the "imagery" is what you think is "bad"... They're metaphors and that's it.

"If Latinos sit out the election instead of, 'we're going to punish our enemies and we're going to reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us'

--obama referring to republican american citizens as enemies and inciting latino voters to punish fellow american citizens because their political beliefs are different

OBAMA FLASHBACK: 'If They Bring a Knife to the Fight, We Bring a Gun'

Here's the thing, we have so 'politically-correctified' the system, there was absolutely nothing that could have been done to prevent this tragedy. Think about it... what could law enforcement have arrested him for? Nothing! Who could have had a legal-aged adult with all his faculties, committed to an institution against his will? No one! It doesn't matter how much we wish to emote and slobber over what we could have done, there was nothing that could have been legally done, that wouldn't have violated his civil and constitutional rights, according to the system we have established... that's just the facts of life here.

I thought threatening a person with violence is a crime?

Verbal threats are generally not considered actionable by law enforcement, they can't be prosecuted. There has to be a compelling reason to believe the person plans to act on his threat, and even then, I think it's shaky... the ACLU has defended countless scumbags and gotten them off the hook for such charges.

Thanks, it seems this is just another case of a crazy slipping through the cracks.

I still wonder what was up with his parents?

He's 22 years old, what legal recourse would his parents have? They literally have no control over him, and can't force him to do anything he doesn't want to do. So how can they be blamed here?

I wonder about security levels surrounding Congressmen/women... I've been wondering about this since the Rand Paul curb stomping incident... it's a wonder more of these type things haven't happened before. I know you all jumped to the defense of the pinhead who rushed Paul, but she could have been brandishing a Glock, just like this guy was... that is what I said at the time, but it was played up as being an 'overreaction' by 'teabaggers' for taking the woman down.

I kind of see a 'damned if we do, damned if we don't' situation here... If we take out someone perceived to be a threat, and it turns out they weren't actually a threat, we have the liberals writhing in the streets at the injustice... violation of civil rights... blah blah blah... If we don't act, and the person turns out to be a real threat, we have what happened in Arizona.

Dixie, if my child was this sick, I would find a way, regardless of his age and this just didn't happen to him in the last couple of years. I am srrry, the age thing is a cop out. I have a niece who is mentally ill, and there are things a parent can do.

We are such a "blame" needy society. Since the beginning of time there have been nutters and there will be nutters until time ends~

I have a friend who is currently going through hell with her 21-year-old son... there is NOTHING she can do from a legal standpoint, the cops have been no help, she has literally NO legal recourse or power to do ANYTHING. That's just how it is, it doesn't matter how much she would love to help, doesn't matter she wants to help.. Once you have reached adulthood, your parents don't have any legal control whatsoever. In fact, he recently tore her house all to hell, and she called the police... when they arrived, they asked her if he lived there? She told them he did, and they told her, there was nothing they could do, it was his house too.

So, as much as you might think it's a cop out, and there are things that can be done, actually DOING things, is much more difficult. Perhaps this shouldn't be the case, but currently, it is the case.

Added to this is that every state is different. It used to be you could have a person committed-that policy was grossly abused and laws created to correct that abuse likewise tied the hands of truly concerned family members. I would also submit is entirely possible that Arizona with their over-crowed jail and court system avoided the expense.

I guess we have been more fortunate and the laws in Missouri have been more in the family's favor. Good luck to your friend. There was an intervention and the adult is receiving mental health counseling.

Can you not desist, for ONE TINY MOMENT, blaming someone else? What in heaven's name is the matter with you ... ALL OF YOU ... that you sust sit on you fat fricken arses and point at the other guy.
This isnt about politics. This isnt about loonies. We ALL have politics and loonies. Is about a society that has lost its way and is so polarised that it is fast failing to function.
Grow up for fuck's sake. Left, right and middle.

maybe this is why some people think you're a troll

Palin should be indicted for incitement to murder.
The charge would not stick but it might make the stupid woman and her even stupider followers think for a nano second.

you went around blaming palin for this and flat out said she incited the guy, you said that a couple of days ago and now you're either lying or furiously back peddling without admitting you're were a partisan jerk trying to score political points when this came out

an apology is in order if you've changed your mind
