Could Syria ignite World War 3? That's the terrifying question

Don't they have a message board in the UK?

Shouldn't you be on that site rallying the red coats instead of worrying about what is happening in our country?

Nobody gives a fuck about what is happening in the UK .. obviously, not even you .. which is why you are here everyday.

BAC YOU ARE THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME.

lol everyone is just owning tom today.

It was just the other day that I was defending you against Howie when he was calling you an anti-semite.

And I appreciate that .. seriously.

However, you should recognize that you're posting in another country talking about "Hicksville, USA." How welcome would I be on a British message board with an uppity American attitude speaking to your countrymen in negative terms?

You don't seem to understand the depth of angst the American people have about perpetual war .. and even you must admit that your comments have often been very pro-war .. where you and I disagree the most.

I am pro tackling the Taliban, both the Afghan and Pakistan varieties, we will have to wait and see if the Afghan army is capable of taking over, I sincerely doubt it myself. Which is why I think you only have drones as a big stick left. I understand very well the level of disapproval it is much the same over here but the problems have not gone away. It is increasingly looking like a perfect storm is brewing in Syria which could spill over into Lebanon, Jordan, Israel, Iraq and Iran. Unfortunately though it often seems to be the case that the US stirs up some shit and then walks away leaving the poor bastards to their fate. It has happened in Vietnam, Iraq in 1991 and looks like it will happen again in Afghanistan.

Absolutely on point.

We walk away because the MIC doesn't give a damn about people .. we're there to make money .. PERIOD. That's what I was trying to get you to understand about Libya. We attacked Libya for profit. The MIC, which runs this country irrespective of who is in the White House, doesn't give a rats ass about the Libyan people .. or any people .. including our own.

Libya was a civil war, Syria is a civil war .. and in both cases we side with the terrorists.. terrorists, I might add, that are connected to the organization that was supposedly behind 9/11.

Civil wars are bloody. Guess how many died in the American Civil War?

Between 650,000 and 850,000 lives.

Should a foreign nation have intervened?

No .. absolutely not. The war was for the soul (pun intended), character, and future of a nation, and ONLY the American people could sort that out.

I'd much prefer a civil tone between us brother.

The reason you walk away in many cases is because the US public lose the will to carry on as we are seeing now. Case in point, after the Vietnam War the South was succeeding in keeping the Viet Minh at bay but the US withdrew all the funding leaving them high and dry. You think all wars are just about profit, but what about Bosnia and Kosovo where was the oil there? I don't doubt what you say about the military industrial complex, we all know the famous Eisenhower speech.

The Vietnam War should have never been fought. America lost nearly 60.000 brave men and women in uniform in that made-up bullshit.

The American public was never asked if we should go to war in Vietnam, and they most certainly cannot be blamed for the consequences.

Again, you're looking at the wrong target.

'Profit' doesn't always take the form of money, sometimes that profit is in power .. as was the case with Bosnia and Kosovo. It was Clinton's moment in the sun that paid off big time.

AND, it was the US supporting Islamist terrorists .. a pattern that has exploded into a disturbing and telling alliance.

May I recommend something from 1933 that is just as relevant today, if not more so.

Yes but that's not the point though. It was fought and the US pulled out and left the South at the mercy of the North. My son's girlfriend is Vietnamese from an old banking family in Saigon and they suffered really badly after the war for being both middle class and ethnic Chinese. The lesson that people worldwide have learnt is that you cannot trust an American's word.

Which countries flew the bombing missions in Libya?

France, Italy, Spain, America, uk. Tom, I'm not trying to be a dick or make fun of you or your country. But the fact is you don't have much to bring to the military table. Thats not some sort of national failing. You have a military capable of defending your nation, all any nation needs. But you're not the super powerful empire you once were.

Yeh I am well aware of that but what I find amusing is how you and others like to get into willy waving about things like aircraft carriers but are loath to deploy them anywhere. As for Libya, the vast majority of the flying sorties were those of the UK and France, the US effort was mostly confined to logistics and firing Tomahawk missiles from off the coast of Libya.

I think the Western World has grown-up a bit since 1914, when we let a small, shithole country/people called Serbia ignite a world war simply by assassinating the Austro-Hungrian head of state. Well, they did manage to generate global attention during the 90s with their genocides...

I bet you have a Muslim friend, rape fetish boy

I have several as a matter of fact, Shafiq Malik for instance is one of the cleverest people I've ever met, he is a Cisco CCIE and is extremely well read. Despite being a devout Muslim he is also incredibly easy to talk to about Islam, we have had many arguments yet have never ever fallen out.

It was a bit more complex than that though.

The Balkans, an unstable group of countries left after the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, inflamed the crisis. Those countries were, in Austro-Hungary's eyes, ripe for the plucking. The only deterrent was the strong bond between Russia and the Slavic people of the Balkans. The straw that broke the camel's back came with this assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria by Balkan terrorists.

Austro-Hungary gave the Balkans a list of humiliating demands to avert war. The Balkans being proud, and with Russia on their side, thought they could get away with not agreeing to the demands. However Austro-Hungary had the Germans on their side and declared war on the Balkans.
Russia returned the favour and declared war on Austro-Hungary. Germany declared war on Russia and in a pre-planned pre-emptive strike, attacked France before they could enter the conflict on Russia's side. This attack was made via Belgium which dragged in Britain on the side of Russia and France. Sensing a time to make ground, prestige and cold, hard cash, Italy weighed in on the side of Germany and A-H, and the conflict began.
