There is one overriding reason that Reagan would be as electable today as he was in 80: He played VERY well to the middle, as well as to the conservatives. It's what got him elected in 80, and 84. (The degree to which he won in 84 was due to the democrats running a throw-away candidate, but he would have won against anyone the democrats had available at that time - which is why the dems ran a throw-away.) And, considering the manner the two parties have split the nation between extremes, leaving a very dissatisfied, disgruntled and larger than previous middle, it would put him on top today.
