Could Ronald Reagan still get the Republican nomination?

There is one overriding reason that Reagan would be as electable today as he was in 80: He played VERY well to the middle, as well as to the conservatives. It's what got him elected in 80, and 84. (The degree to which he won in 84 was due to the democrats running a throw-away candidate, but he would have won against anyone the democrats had available at that time - which is why the dems ran a throw-away.) And, considering the manner the two parties have split the nation between extremes, leaving a very dissatisfied, disgruntled and larger than previous middle, it would put him on top today.

:lmao: Talk about your delusions!! He was completely incapable as a leader. Carter could not even get cooperation out of a congress controlled by his own fucking party! He was an absolute disaster in foreign policy, and his domestic policy was so fucked the democratic party itself all but abandoned him.

I will give Carter credit where credit is due: he has proven himself an outstanding statesman. But good leader? No. Good President? Absolutely not.

Reagan should have been impeached several times over for his crimes, how the fuck he got away with it is still a total mystery to me. The middle class has been decimated by voodoo economics and deregulation. You really need to get away from the last remaining remnants of liberal America and see the decay.

He said nothing about middle class. Are we reading the same post from GoodLuck? The post I read he was talking about the middle of the political spectrum. He said both parties have to gone to extremes leaving a large dissastisfied group in the middle. Hence my comment about Republicans and Democrats.

so you're now backpeddling and claiming you were talking about the middle class...............then you clearly did not understand what was said........

what was being talked about was a large middle POLITICAL class that is tired of the far left and right. i used to be fairly far right, now, i've moved more to the middle as i've grown. that has nothing to do with money.

I took his caveat 'larger than previous' as a prop to Reagan, who didn't increase the middle class. I could be wrong.

If you want to lay blame for the polarization, divisiveness and division in this country...start with Lee Atwater, Karl Rove, Rush Limbaugh and the anti democracy right wing

He didn't even get into polarization of the electorate other than he said both parties moved to the extreme thus leaving a big group in the middle. Nothing to do with money or class. He's talking about the political spectrum.
