Conservatives and Sports

He doesn't like sports or alcohol. That's automatic loss of man card.

And many people watch sports without worshing any player or team. And there are unfortunately too many kids who grow up without close families or role models in their communities and if looking up to an athlete who came up through similar disadvantaged circumstances and became a success helps a young child stay positive then that's a great thing.
I know but he likes golf. The most elitist pussy game (I can't honestly call it a sport) there is. Hell even Tennis, which is almost as boring to watch, is more sporting than golf.

Ah, yes. There's bad blood there. Thankfully, now that we are all part of a united Europe, all those old rivalries have floated off into the ether and we Englanders spend most of our time admiring the French work ethic, their excellent standards of hygiene and the undoubted courage of the splendid chaps comprising their formidable war fighting machine.

Stereotypes be damned, i say.
Ahh you're just pissy cause they have better wine, cheese and prettier girls and then you Limey's do. :pke:

I think the best thing about the Tour is that the French make it so egalitarian. It's a 3 week traveling circus and you don't have to buy a ticket to attend. How sweet is that? LOL

I find it very interesting that of all the nationalities that ride in the Tour that Spaniards and Americans have won 17 of the last 20 Tours.
What I like is that the participants are normal guys that honed themselves into true athletes, unlike pro basketball and football which are populated mainly by what can be described as genetic mutants. *shrug*

The French and Indian War, also known as the War of the Conquest (French: Guerre de la Conquête), was a war fought in North America between 1754 and 1763 and forms part of a larger conflict known as Seven Years' War that was occurring in Europe.

The conflict, the fourth such colonial war between the nations of France and Great Britain, resulted in the British conquest of Canada.

That war before the United States had come into existence?

Oh, sorry about that, SM.

I had the odd impression that when the United States came into existence you had some sort of a minor spat with Britain. I didn't realise that the fledgeling United States of America was waging a secret war with the French as well.

The things you learn, eh?
Go back a few years into colonial history my drunken friend... *shrug*

Dude, first, it's correctly called "The 7 Years War" and was a glogal war between the British and the French over their colonial interest and America was still 20 some years away from being a country.

I think that's the bit he's having trouble with. :D

Did Georgie Washingtons die in vain?

Actually, that's not true. If anything guy's like Greg Lemond with a 92/mg/kg VO2 Max and Lance Armstrong and his 6 mg/dl lactic acid threshold are genetic freaks. Even at the Elite profesional level an athlete with a VO2 max in the 90's is a one in a million athlete. In pro cycling only 3 athletes have ever tested a VO2 max over 88. LeMond, Hinault and Indurain. The greatest cyclest ever Eddy Merykx probably was in that range but never had his VO2 max tested. You'll probably only see a handfull of athletes like that in your life time.

That's his point silly. Colonials in North America fought for both sides in the 7 years war. This was a war between Britain and France and not between France and American colonialist. Where did you ever get such an idea?

The biography of Ben Franklin. The American colonists had a huge problem with attacks from the French from the frontier, and their British King refused to provide adequate protection. *shrug*
