Congress is exempt from Obamacare?

When they have nothing else, they have to resort to lies and misleading language.

I agree, its one thing when the less intelligent of them believe it, that cant really be helped. When the more intelligent of them repeat the lies that they clearly know are lies, that's when its kind of pitiful.

Still not seeing any "exemption."

They were 'in it' before being exempted for it, they were going to have to pay for coverage, before that too was exempted:

...All this began when Congress passed the Affordable Care Act in 2010. It compelled Congress and its staff to participate in ObamaCare and its insurance exchanges like other Americans who don't have employer-provided plans. But in their haste and confusion over legislation so long that few even read it all, some members of Congress voted for the law without realizing that the final bill had no mention of the very generous premium contributions the government makes to federal employees as part of the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program.

Imagine the horror when these elected officials, who make $174,000 a year, realized that not only must they and their staffers be subject to inferior-quality health exchanges like the millions of ordinary Americans, but they might also have to shell out thousands of dollars for increased premiums if they exceed the subsidy income cutoff...

Rules for the rest of us, not for the elite.

The Obama critters will never stop their lies.

Your party is tearing its self to shreds to fight this law.

once it goes into full effect your party is dead

Youre a sociopath is why.

anyone who would PM people all nice like and then publically lie about what was said has no moral code

Before ACA, people in Congress were covered and the govt (their employer) paid for part of their coverage

After ACA, congress was moved to the exchanges - but the part where their employer paid for part of it got dropped

So the correction is to allow the employer to continue paying for the policy now that they are on ACA

this is not special; this is just restoring something they already had.

My employer pays for part of my health care; there is nothing special about govt paying for part of their employees' health care.

The rule was put there to bring them into the plan that is going to be the norm for most, those without insurance and those who find their companies have dropped coverages or put them into the exchanges. Since it's such a great idea they shouldn't have their premiums paid for by their employer at 100% subsidy, nor should they be in any plan better than the platinum one offered. Our 'representatives' should live with the full impact of all laws they pass, whether they choose to read them or not.

The bold isn't necessarily true. Nothing got dropped. What happened was that members of Congress and their staffers were required to obtain insurance through the exchanges as opposed to through the Federal Employee Health Benefit Program. The ACA language reads:

The only health plans that the Federal Government may make available to Members of Congress and congressional staff with respect to their service as a Member of Congress or congressional staff shall be health plans that are — (I) created under this Act (or an amendment made by this Act); or (II) offered through an Exchange established under this Act (or an amendment made by this Act).

The language is all about where they obtain insurance, not how it's paid for.

However, the federal government is the only large employer that is allowed onto the exchanges to provide insurance to its employees and there is no mechanism is the ACA for an employer to make premium contributions to the exchanges. At the same time, the federal government pays about 75% of employee health insurance premium. So the issue became how exactly the government could continue paying a portion of its employees premium as it had previously while its employees obtained insurance through the exchanges. The OPM developed a way for that to happen.

They are following the same rules the rest of us follow. If you worked hard and got a job that pays for your insurance, you should enjoy it. They had insurance well before Obamacare was passed. They are treated the same as every other Americans. Just like my assistant.

That's another lie, it will not be the norm for most who have attained a level of employment where the employer has historically paid for the health insurance. You are taking a group of people who worked hard to get where they are, they took a job that offered a certain compensation package, because they qualified for that job. They are treated JUST LIKE ANY OTHER AMERICAN WHO WORKS HARD ENOUGH TO GET A GREAT JOB.

When I worked for the Government, one of the reasons I stayed was because they paid 100% of my health care coverage, when I left I made more cash, but paid out the nose for health care. I know many who stayed at the government job as prosecutors because they had Pre-existing conditions and needed the great benefits that job offered. The county needed good prosecutors and this was a way the county could entice good attorneys to take the jobs at a lower pay rate.

The problem is, you can't count on republicans to discuss anything with any honesty at all.

They will take a perfectly reasonable comment and spin it so they can use it to create fear amongst their supporters.
