Confirmation Hearing live: Judge Amy Barrett

Trump said he would nominate someone who would be on his side in an election case, on his side in Roe V Wade and his side on the ACA.

And you believe Trump and think Barrett actually agreed how she would vote? Total nonsense.

Most of the Justices vote the same way as the others 80-90% of the time. 35% of cases are unanimous.

Kavanaugh's conservative to the bone. But that's OK, conservative views are essential and important. I believe he has already shown he can set his politics aside and do his job. I've forgiven him for being a little shitass in his High School days. He's turned out OK. Good parent and good man.

What I like about Kavanaugh is he is decent enough to know that Donald Trump is an idiot and unfit for office.

He has had several chances to vote in DOnald Trump's favor several times now, and voted in the other direction.

And so has Gorsuch.

So it looks like Barrett is DONNIE'S ONLY TRUE LOYALTIST!

The Court was so pure before Barrett. I've actually been happy with the SUPREME COURT justices decisions lately.

Now we will have a political and religious hack on the bench!

ANd I am betting that the justices talk her into recusing herself in the upcoming California vs. Texas hearing- and any possible lawsuit DOnald Trump will file after he loses the election as well.

The justices have a lot of pride in the bench and they don't want some political hack ruining their reputation.

Agreed. Unlike Kavanaugh who probably committed perjury during his confirmation hearing, Judge Amy is a straight shooter. I believe everything she said today. Very sharp person.

Trump stated clearly what he would require in a judge to put them up. Then he interviewed her. Perhaps they talked about Titleist or Taylor Made? I suspect Trump started with will you vote on my side in an election dispute, then followed up with the ACA act. He does not care that much about abortion rights. I am sure he paid for a lot of those.

That's why he rewrote Obamacare so it would pass as a tax, right?

IMO, he was a poor nomination.

"The gambit worked. Roberts ultimately relied upon that argument from Verilli by way of Kavanaugh to uphold the mandate as a constitutional exercise of the taxing power. That Kavanaugh, like Roberts, used the last few pages of his opinion to decry the “unprecedented” nature of a mandate upheld via the Commerce Clause power does not mitigate his favorable analysis of a mandate upheld via the Taxing Clause power."

That would be illegitimate, seditious, un Constitutional and un American confirmation in violation of all core values of America and the best interests of society as a result of a conspiracy to ram in another Putin sold out tRump and republican operative.

Trump stated clearly windmills cause cancer, Mexico would pay for the wall, we would get rid of Obamacare on Day 1, we would pay down the debt in eight years, etc. Because Trump said it does not mean it is true. He does not even know if the court will get cases on the election or abortion rights.

No reputable judicial candidate is going to promise the president how they will vote.

Go read her dissent in the gun case---she is very mainstream.

What provision of the Constitution did it violate?

Sure a confirmation among Putin's puppet tRump and sold out republicans at ramming in another desecration on SCOTUS that has made it dysfunctional when it comes to serving the best interests of American society and U.S. Constitutional law as a Russian, tRump and sold out republican enemy of the State. This comes to being a currently un American court of lawless scoundrels as repuke majority and friends of both foreign and domestic enemies of the USofA and its International interests.

Why do you think Judge Roberts is the CHIEF justice?
How do you think CHIEF Justices are selected?
What attributes does a CHIEF Justice have to have to be selected?

You seem to be on an island- ALL ALONE WITH YOUR THINKING!

Perhaps it's time you need to check under your own hood!

Many a coke-hazed evening with the 1990s Portland Trailblazers might straighten the Barrett broad out.
Or at least get her off our hands.

Soooo your solution is date rape, gang rape and whatever it takes to demean a woman to "get her off" your hands?

I don't believe it , but let's say Trump did that. How can he enforce it once she's on the bench? Short answer: he can't.

Have you noticed the differences between this confirmation and Kavanaugh's? There's a lot of great legal discussion this time. I'm actually learning a lot about how the Federal courts work compared to learning about Boofing, the Devil's Triangle and watching a former drunk perjure himself in front of Congress.

I was never much a fan of Kavanaugh because of his corporatist leanings, but after seeing how ridiculous Ford's accusations were, I had to take his side.

His confirmation was a nice fuck you to all the feminist extremists and Democratic opportunists.

I dislike Kavanaugh because he lied either directly or by omission under oath. The best thing he could have done with the Ford situation is plead a Mea Culpa. Something like this: "I don't recall the incident, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen. I did many things in my younger days in which I am not proud. Although I don't recall the incident described, I offer my sincerest apologies for any harm done to others during my youth."

The good news is that Kavanaugh votes fairly moderately albeit slightly right leaning.

Martin-Quinn score
Kavanaugh's Martin-Quinn score following the 2019 term was 0.4, making him the fifth-most conservative justice on the court at that time. Martin-Quinn scores were developed by political scientists Andrew Martin and Kevin Quinn from the University of Michigan, and measures the justices of the Supreme Court along an ideological continuum. The further from zero on the scale, the more conservative (>0) or liberal (<0) the justice. The chart below details every justice's Martin-Quinn score for the 2019 term.

FWIW, like most Democratic Senators, CNN has given up covering the confirmation hearing and is focusing on the election. MSNBC and Fox are still covering it.

Another reason to watch NewsMix in order to see what the Cable Newz Networks are covering and what they are not. IMO this difference is about business, not a super-secret media plot to distort the news as the Conspiracy Theorists often scream about. All the major networks, especially cable news, monitors what interests their viewers and what does not interest them. It appears the CNN viewers have lost interest in the confirmation hearing so they've dropped minute-by-minute coverage.

Back the Battle of the Amys. I admire Senator Amy Klobuchar but she's got a serious hair up her ass about Judge Amy Coney Barrett. Anyone know the basis for this?

Kavanaugh is essentially the same as Obama's appointment of Merrick Garland. The two voted together 93% of the time.

Thanks and great point. I strongly doubt Judge Amy Barrett will vote further right then Kavanaugh.
