Confederacy: check. Now on to colonialism

I agree there is a slippery slope danger. The failsafe between a statue and a book is pretty clear, however. It's the difference between making an appointment and having authority rub your nose in it
A statue of Hitler in town square versus buying Mein Kampf to read. Must I stay indoors to avoid an offensive statue? I can easily avoid that book and still have a life.

In reality when there is a statue people who go by it often don't even notice it let alone think about what it depicts. It's like me and the confederate flag, I have been around them all my life and all they remind me of when I see one is the south. Slavery doesn't even enter the picture. But then I'm not black so I see things differently.

Next will be MLK and the Statue of Liberty itself.

Only statues of "woke" figures will be allowed. Like Obama and Kapernic and George Floyd. You know, real "heroes."

You're just mad because the monuments of people who share your values are all getting torn down.

Then they don't teach history, so there's no need for them to be waved in public or adorn public places. This is you admitting that you don't get any history from these things.

So thanks for making the argument that none of this shit is "history".

Hello Reverend_Hellh0und,

You didn't explain yourself very well, so you are suggesting that peurto rico bears no responsibility for it's current state and it's all our fault?

What specific crippling fed regs are you talking about?

Federal regulations prevent shipping trade with Puerto Rico by requiring only American flagged ships can trade there.

Funny when I argued the statues were reminders of the history of this country you fucking wimps swore up and down I was full of shit. Now you are trying to use the same argument. What a fucking loser you are.

Reminder of what? You have Conservatives defending Confederate monuments ON THIS VERY SITE AND IN THIS VERY THREAD by saying they were Americans.

So clearly, these statues don't serve as effective reminders of anything.

They have no historical value, obviously. So what is it they are "reminding" anyone of?

This shit is primarily about sticking it to southerners and virtue signaling lol.

This shit is primarily about sticking it to southerners and virtue signaling lol.

Why would any southerners feel that way unless they identify with the statues because they share the same values as the subjects of those statues?

So you're admitting that Southerners feel we are sticking it to them by tearing down monuments to white supremacists and traitors?

So then southerners identify with white supremacists and traitors?

The statues are actually a virtue signal for racists and white supremacists; that's why they were built and that's why you are opposed to tearing them down.

Otherwise, what is their "historical" value? Obviously none if you think they were Americans when they fought for the Confederacy.

I’m actually not a southerner so it’s just an observation lol.

You enjoy the piss out of it not because ‘you’re more free’ when they come down. Probably don’t even pay attention to the damn things when you drive by them; it’s a game.

Take that, you Redneck’s. You think people can’t see this?

So then the only reason to keep these statues is because of the feelings of southerners?
