Competition lacking among private health insurers

And the phone companies were a profit regulated monopoly. And made nice profits and had some of the most deisreable stock to hold for many years.

Perhaps the same for insurance companies?

sure, if is hurting consumers and the market....do the same....no need to get a government run insurance in there....we already have medicare, medicaid....this is simply a power grab by lefties....

there was no insurer of bank deposits or insurer of unemployment for the government to put out of business.....though incidentally, there are plenty of private worker's compensation insurers, in Michigan for example, the state operates only a second injury fund which is a re-insurer......

I see what you mean though about the health debate being about something else, since your examples aren't related to what is being attempted in health care.....

what i was going to say....he did make a good red herring though....

Cool lets regulate them and Pharma as well like we did the Public utilities for many years.
Actually they are endangering the nation not just individuals.
The project cost increases are totally unsustainable.

Oh, so now you WANT government insurance, as long as it doesn't put some corporation out of business.

HaHaHa. You cons are hilarious.

Whatever happened to the pull yourself up by your bootstraps crap? The no-more-nanny-state crap? The self-reliance crap?

Why aren't you pulling your money out of governemnt insured FDIC institutions, and why aren't you demanding the elimination of a host of other government insurance programs?

Man, I never thought I see the day when republicans were so busy trying to tap dance and spin, that they would paint themselves inadvertently into a corner supporting the New Deal.

Fuck the self reliance crap. I guess, all of a "sudden" republicans support some of the major foundations of the New Deal, including government-insured deposits, unemployment insurance, and government disability insurance.

Congratulations! We're ALL New Dealers now! :cheer:

Hey man, at this point I don’t even know why Cons participate on message boards. Y’all don’t have any consistent ideological foundation, and the only thing that seems of any consequence is that you just want to say something that is the opposite of a liberal.

Y’all change your arguments almost by the minute. Y’all said the enumerated powers don’t give the government authority to do any thing pertaining the general welfare. Y’all claim to want to get rid of the Nanny state, and return to rugged self reliance.

But, now you’re on here whining about how we need the FDIC, and disability insurance?

Make up your fucking mind!

If you had any core beliefs or consistent foundation, you would say we don’t need unemployment insurance. There’s a solution for unemployment that doesn’t involve the nanny state. Save your own freaking money in case of a rainy day. That’s the
Con solution.

If you all are secretly going to agree with nearly everything liberals and progressive have accomplished this century, then just drop the charade of feeling compelled for emotional reasons to say the opposite of whatever a liberal says.

um.....we were talking about ATT, not public utilities

Government is not a legitimate competitor. They will always win, not because they are superior but because they are the government.

how do you explain fedex and ups kicking usps ass?

I don't see any postal workers or bureacrats suffering though.

Sometimes in business the true winner is the one who is the last man standing. Unlimited access to taxpayer funds is quite a warchest.

dude.....if there is a needed service and no one has been providing it, it makes sense for the government to provide it....it is needed....no one is providing it.....significant clues!......

that doesn't equate to the government stepping in and destroying a business that IS being provided.....

gotcha....then on that we agree....the government has a much better advantage that way

Wow, so you agree with liberals that the general welfare clause is an explicit authority granted in the constitution.

I hope you don't make you're fellow wingnuts mad. Because they've been arguing for 70 years that the government has no general welfare authorities, and its powers are in fact limited to the specific enumerated clauses.

I wonder how you square your sudden admiration for granting government power for needed services, with your allegedly conservative "strict contructionist" ideology of the constitution?

I thought Cons believe in self-reliance, personal responsibility, and they were against the nanny state. Why would a Con be in favor of government disability insurance? Surely, a self reliant person can save money for a rainy day....there's also charity, and family members can help....there are also private insurance policies that cover medical care for disabilities.
