I'm not on the side of the government. the problem i'm having is you seem to want to blame the fire department for following the city policy. you fail to see the hypocrisy in your laying of blame. what is it you want? you cannot have a government department do whatever it wants and expect things to just 'pan itself out'. it never has and never will work that way. If you want to blame someone, try blaming the city and county. It is their rules and policies that bound this fire department to it's actions.

You said "I'm not on the side of the government" and you've been pretty consistently vocal about civil disobedience re: some gov't. policies.

That's exactly what I was looking for here, from the firemen. The ordinance says $75 or no spraying. The firemen could have taken the position that it was unethical and immoral for the county to let the property burn, stood up to the county, fought the fire and dealt with the consequences later. Instead they stood around mumbling "I was just following orders". Now where have we heard that line before?

and if jobs were easy to come by in this day and age, I might be inclined to agree, but you can't fault the firemen for wanting to keep their jobs by following city policy. It protects them in more ways than one. and the 'just following orders' spiel.....well that's just plain silly. They weren't committing war crimes.

Yup...the bottom line is those firemen put their selfish love of the almighty dollar ahead of their concern for a fellow human being.

simply not true. it's a shame you can't see that. I understand it might be hard for you to blame the almighty 'never do wrong' government that you love so much, but whatever.

And what about the guy who didn't pay his $75 fee like he knew he was suppose to yet expected a group of others to risk losing their jobs for him? There's no selfishness in that?

I am sorry.

They let that man's home burn to the ground over $75.00

That is pretty damn selfish.

the CITY policy let that mans house burn down, not the firemen.

postulate....

firefighters decided 'screw city policy' and commence to battle fire. Fireman Jim, with wife and 3 kids, gets killed fighting fire. guess what happens to wife and 3 kids? they get nothing. NOTHING. no life insurance, no benefits, no nothing. Why? because Fireman Jim didn't follow city policy.

Now, imagine that this was YOUR house, outside of the city limits, and YOU got lucky enough for Fireman Jim to disobey city policy. are YOU going to provide for his wife and 3 kids?

thought not, but that's pretty selfish of you.

Do you know that they were paid employees rather than volunteers?

Firemen have terrible jobs that aren't that easy to get in the first place. Every fire could mean putting your life on the line. IMO the county would be hard-pressed to replace an entire staff if they chose to fire the guys for flouting the rules.

Yes I know it's not war but I have a harsh view of people who let animals die and property get destroyed over a petty $75.

I can't fault a geezer forgetting to make a payment for something. My parents are geezers and I've had to help fix their mistakes plenty of times, fortunately none involved fire.

Make all the excuses you like.

The episode in S Fulton was just the latest example of how selfish Americans have become.

How's this sound for the New American Motto?

"I got mine, so SCREW YOU!"

Pretty much sums up what those firemen said to that poor man.

they aren't excuses, and i notice that you didn't bother to answer any of the questions.

So, how many fires has "city policy" fought?

How many times has "city policy" rushed into a burning building to help someone trapped?

City Policy didn't stand by and watch that man's home burn, it was REAL PEOPLE who did just that.

"City Policy" is what those men remind themselves of when their consciences are getting to them and they can't sleep at night because when they close their eyes all they see is that they stood by and let a man's home burn to the ground.

If you don't follow policy at your workplace, what happens? also, you seem to have no real idea how government functions. Who writes fire department policy? who writes police department policy?

Just curious to your opinion. I'm a non-denominational Christian. I believe in God. I believe in Heaven. I went to church as a kid but in the last 20 years have only gone for weddings and the occassional Christmas and Easter.

I live in San Francisco which has lots of poor and homeless people. I walk by many of them each day and I don't give them money, I don't offer them my clothes and I don't offer them a place to sleep in my home. Does that make me a non-Christian or a fake Christian?
I guess the real question is, "What Would Jesus Do?" LOL! I kill me sometimes!

I'm going to ask again, WHY are you people blaming the FIRE DPT for following the CITY COUNCIL policies?

And I'm going to tell you again, you insipidly stubborn oather clown, The CITY Council was wrong, the Fire Dept. was Wrong....and they BOTH represent the fucked up mindset of our current neocon/oather/tea bagging/libertarian blowhards who scream bloody murder about LESS GOV'T and paying taxes that others might benefit from without paying the same tax. Tennessee is a prime example of the conclusion of such a mindset....and YOU just don't like it.

It wasn't about the money.

Thats 'tough love' honey.....its the only way to teach liberal pinhead freeloaders that they are responsible for their actions.....

You think you're gonna buy $10 million in life insurance for MaMa and hour after she dies.....?
Maybe purchase some healthcare insuransce after your sickness is discovered.....????? .....:palm:

sorry pinhead, it just don't work that way.

Bravo, you are one pitiful SOS excuse for a human being.

The man HAD THE MONEY AT THE SCENE....they couldn't give him a receipt after they put out the fire? The City Council couldn't have gotten off their brains to initiate a billing?

No, better to be a POS and quote some rule with a punitive effect while the man loses his home.

Your "analogy" doesn't make sense, Bravo...as the man's house COULD HAVE BEEN SAVED. The Fire Dept. was ON the SCENE.....the equivalent of going to the doctor and getting a shot or perscription WHEN YOU HAVE AN ILLNESS.

:palm: Bravo, get over this delusion that you are some sort of self sustaining, self made man living in America. If you went to a public school, YOU ARE A RECIPIENT OF GOV'T FUNDING. If you were in the military...you were fed, clothed and housed on the GOV'T dollar. Your GI bill, GOV'T subsidy.

I could go on, but dumb toots like Bravo have clapped their hands over their ears, closed their eyes and are shouting the same neocon mantras over and over by this time.

Tennessee should ONLY happen to Bravo on some level as Divine justice.
