Comey's gift to the smug "we know the electorate better than you do" crowd

I have said that Trump won the election fair & square, and he did. But enough w/ this whole "you Democrats had better learn a lesson about the electorate" thing. And enough from the Grinds of the board about how anyone who called Hillary "should never make predictions again," as though Trump was a done deal all along.

Hillary is now up over a million in the popular vote tally. She lost key states by the thinnest of margins:
WI by 30,000 out of 3 million
MI by 11,000 out of 5 million
FL by 110,000 out of 9 million
PA by 65,000 out of 6 million

The final early voting and election day voting was characterized by 2 important factors: low turnout for Democrats, and Republicans "going back home" to the party and voting Trump.

Hmmmmm....what could have caused that, I wonder? With Hillary holding a fairly insurmountable lead 11 days out...what ever could have changed so many minds and created this dynamic?

Enough already. Enough w/ this "we understand the electorate and you don't." Enough w/ the "you still don't get it, do you?" You got extremely lucky, in a country where the demographics are changing rapidly in the Democrat's favor. The only "understanding" we really have about the electorate is that Hillary's scandals and negatives were too much to overcome in this cycle.

agreed. this is no mandate.
It was a turnout/base election. What I don't really agree with is Comey turned it, It's hard to say
but the late breakers were all going for Trump even before the last Comey eruption

To me, there isn't much doubt. And I'm okay with it, believe it or not - ultimately, Hillary brought all of it on herself.

I would have said the same about Access Hollywood if Trump was way up in the polls with 11 days out, and that video had come out then, and he lost by thin margins in key states.

wait, is this the latest theory to explain away the incompetence of the DNC in putting a corrupt criminal up as their presidential candidate?
:shamecube:

no point in debating the minutia, late breakers went Trump. there were probably multiple reasons.
Bernie could have won i'm sure. The DNC slit it's own throat "It's a rigged game" ( Bernie)

I love to think that Bernie could have won, but Trump and the GOP would have really taken him apart in the campaign. Not sure if he would have made it. I wonder what the nickname would have been? Commie Bernie? Crazy Bernie?

The DNC hurt itself more by having such a small, weak field from the get-go. Trying to make it easy for Hillary.

Obama has hollowed out the Dem's leadership. He has no coat tials and got shellacked a couple times. The Party needs some young blood

I think Bernie could have gotten the "change" vote

Though I made no prediction on who would win, I did predict it would come down to voter turnout. And yes, Hillary was going down before Comey entered into it.

Also, Pussy Gate was way overblown by the media, so Comey/Pussy Gate cancel each other out.

312,000 votes in three states gave us President Obama instead of President Romney.......

Not at all. Look at the tallies in some of the new "red" states.

yes but look at the counties. Counties that obama won by double digits went for trump. This happened all over the map. Dem voters did not stay home. They defected. Look at evan mcmullin in utah and the number of write ins all over the map. GOP did not come home they wrote third party in.

If you look at it you will see much lower winning % in some key GOP states. Some dem voters mainly minorities and young people did stay home yes.

The map will show you the right lessons. Look beyond state level.

fyi. 30000 or less income group romney got 25% according to nyt exit poll. Trump got 41%. 30000-50000 trump got 42% romney got 36.

Heres the kicker income 100-200k trump got 49% Romney got 58%

so poorest +16%
poor +6
well off -8%

out of those 3 which sounds like a traditional republican voting block and which sounds like a traditional dem voting block?

And why does anyone care about this?

Trump's election was an anomoly. There are no new coalitions, no shifting demographics. He'll face a stronger candidate than Hillary next time, and I doubt his likeability is going to change.
