The investigation was started before Trump was elected. You remember Strzok telling Page that Trump ‘would be stopped’? That was before the election and not after. The Russian investigation was a counterintelligence investigation that was subsumed by Mullet.
Forgive me, I didn’t mean to parrot a bald-faced criminal lie. The fact is the Russian investigation was never *not* the Trump investigation. From day one, the Russian investigation was ‘an insurance policy’ that would either ‘stop Trump’ or hobble his presidency once he got elected.
You’re right about one thing—the trap was sprung when Trump fired the criminal liar Comey.
In Comey’s own words, he leaked his memo with the hope it would lead to an SP—who turned out to be his good buddy and former FBI Director Mullet. A former director would have no interest in protecting the agency—nah, that would never happen in DC.
You see Frankie, without an SP the ‘Russian investigation’ was doomed to wither on the vine because the parties involved knew there was nothing to it. Lisa Page testified to Congress that as late as 2016 the agency still didn’t have actionable evidence of collusion. Strzok told Page via text that ‘there was no there, there’ and that was the reason he was non-plussed about joining Mullet’s team.
Without an SP they were doomed to look for a crime they knew didn’t exist. They REALLY NEEDED an SP so they could expand the mandate to where it was basically a crime search. A search for something/anything they could charge Trump with and remove him from office. What they wanted—was a Witch Hunt. And they got it.
