(CNN)About half of Americans who watched President Joe Biden's address to Congress had a very positive reaction to the speech, and 71% said they walked away feeling more optimistic about the country's direction, according to a CNN Poll conducted by SSRS.

By a wide margin, speech-watchers said that Biden's policy proposals would move the country in the right direction (73%) rather than the wrong direction (27%). In a survey conducted before the speech, the same people were a bit less bullish that Biden would lead in the right direction (67% right direction, 33% wrong direction), and that movement came from the independents and Republicans who watched the speech. Among Republicans, the share saying Biden's policies would move the country in the right direction grew from 13% pre-speech to 27% post-speech, while among independents, that percentage rose from 61% to 73%.

That perception carries through to the major issues covered in the speech. More than 8 in 10 said Biden's proposals on the coronavirus pandemic would move in the right direction (86%), and 74% said the same about racial injustice. Around 7 in 10 said the President's policies on the economy (72%), gun laws (70%) and taxes (70%) were steps in the right direction. Slightly fewer said the same about immigration (65%). That means that about 5% and a bit of Americans really liked Biden's speech because only about 12 million out of about 320 million watched it.

You really don't have good reading comprehension do you. Many MSM sources are saying "Americans" not viewers.

This started with CBS making this claim. It has been quickly discredited and many other sites are now saying "viewers" instead which is correct. That means about 5% of Americans approved of his speech out of the roughly 6 to 7% that watched it. The CBS claim wouldn't need widespread discrediting if they hadn't made it to begin with.

They polled 510 DEMOCRATS, and just 169 Republicans. They added 235 “Independents” to the methodology. A further 3 percent were not identified.

The full poll details reveal that See-BS actually spoke with 10,420 U.S. adults and then whittled the sample size down to just 943.

Of this 943:

54% were DEMOCRATS (510 people)
25% were Independents (235 people)
18% were Republicans (169 people)

YouGov and See-BS stacked their sample with leftists in order to create the result they wanted.

This See-BS News survey is based on 943 interviews of adults who watched the President's address to Congress on Wednesday night. An initial survey was conducted by YouGov between April 23-27, 2021 using a nationally representative sample of 10,420 U.S. adults, including 4,211 respondents who planned to watch the address. Respondents who planned to watch the speech were asked if they were willing to be re-interviewed. Only those who watched the speech were included in the analysis.

The initial sample was weighted according to gender, age, race, and education based upon voter registration lists and the U.S. Census Current Population Survey, as well as 2020 Presidential vote. The final sample of post-speech re-interviews was weighted to be representative of those who said they would watch the President's address according to gender, age, race, education, geographic region, 2020 vote, and pre-speech partisan identification. The margin of error is +/- 4.4 pts.
