“Tens of thousands of Music Midtown festivalgoers are no longer going to descend on Atlanta’s massive Piedmont Park next month”

“In fact, some people are convinced Atlanta will lose more music festivals and performances on public land as organizers and artists learn that state law makes it nearly impossible for them to stop people from carrying guns among the alcohol-fueled crowds.”

“Nation planned to host the festival at Piedmont Park — public land — where the festival had been held each year since 2011. And it almost certainly fell into the leasing category that would make a ban on guns illegal.”

“In terms of Music Midtown, it’s virtually a no-brainer that they can’t ban guns there,” said John Monroe, an attorney who represented a gun rights group in the case before the state Supreme Court.”

“Cancelling the event over the gun law would make sense from Live Nation's perspective, said Timothy Lytton, a law professor at Georgia State University.”

“A mass shooting at a country music festival in Las Vegas in 2017 that claimed more than 50 lives cost MGM Resorts International — the owner of the concert venue — and its insurers $800 million in legal claims. With no restriction on guns, Live Nation was looking at potentially “astronomical” liability exposure at Music Midtown”

Alcohol, drugs, guns, in a crowd, in a Southern State, in today’s climate, what could go wrong. But, but, but my “freedom,” looks like the “freedom” lovers in Georgia will have to do without festivals, concerts, and more for awhile

a most excellent example of why these should be put on private land, not public. If an entity wants to ban guns, they can do it on private land. that way THEY get to be responsible if anything happens because of their lack of security

Believe Uvalde proved security isn’t the remedy, nineteen trained heavily armed just outside the door while kids were getting massacred

did nothing of the sort. Uvalde school had ONE resource officer. that's shitty security. Now, if you need/want to classify 19 heavily armed law enforcement too afraid to go in, what makes you think that the FBI/DHS/ATF are going to be any different? THINK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Because they will come to one small house with one occupant with 30 heavily armed stormtroopers who hate honest and responsible gun owners. Just wait until they try to raid the farmhouses and rural folks...

National Rifle Association leaders can be heard calling their members “hillbillies” and “fruitcakes”

“If you pull down the exhibit hall, that’s not going to leave anything for the media except the members meeting, and you’re going to have the wackos … with all kinds of crazy resolutions, with all kinds of, of dressing like a bunch of hillbillies and idiots,” Hammer reportedly said. “And, and it’s gonna, it’s gonna be the worst thing you can imagine.”

move it out to Marietta. too close to midtown is a problem, ask Buckhead.

Insurance companies are not going to allow it with everyone able to bring guns, and Georgia will not allow guns to be banned. They have to move it out of Georgia.

Many business leaders are still shocked that there are states where private property means nothing, and people are allowed to bring guns into a business whatever the owners want. When they realize this, they start reconsidering putting businesses in red states.

There were close to two dozen armed officers present when the Uvalde shooter entered the school. That number expanded to nearly 400 armed officers.

I will say that it was federal law enforcement (mostly Border Patrol), the officers with the least authority to act, that were the ones that acted. What did make federal law enforcement different? Professionalism? Leadership?

Abbot went into hiding when he heard there was a mass shooting, and was impossible to provide authority.

That area was dangerous when I visited there for a convention 16 years ago. I learned after the first day to not even walk outside my hotel.
yeah and that was rue 35 years ago. I did not venture far when I was down there for meetings when I worked at Coca Cola.

Criminals do not observe the law so banning in a open area is pointless. The problem is not laws but rather those determined to break the law. And Atlanta proper is chock full of them. It is hip hop central after all.

It is a not an open area, tickets are required.

Funny how the GOP in congress and the NRA are all about, "you should be able to carry anywhere". Guess where you're NOT allowed to carry. Congress and any NRA convention. Makes sense, no?

No.

Excellent point. I'm going to be visiting Uvalde this month, actually. Might stay there, I'm not sure.
