Cain's numbers drop significantly!

I've dealt with guys on Wall Street who make half a million a year and don't know the difference between they're, there, and their. Lawyers too actually. A lot of lawyers are horrible with grammar and spelling. I don't know what causes it, I always assumed they just had no interest in English courses and napped through them. It is true though that the old timers, people my mom's age and older, have far superior grammatical skills. Even with just a high school education. So, you could be right about the cause.

As evidenced here.

Spelling is generally unrelated to level of education or intelegence.

That is not true, and ironic for you to say so, seeing that you have misspelled a word in a statement about the tenets of good spelling.

So answer me this, why does it matter, other than elitism, how something is spelled, as long as the intent is conveyed?

Because you insult the reader, by putting the onus on him or her to ascertain what you meant, having to decipher which word belongs. Are you too lazy to use a dictionary?
Well, if so, I'm not interested in what you might have to say.

Thank God for the liberals, we are getting closer to getting the nigger out. Just need Obama to die a horrible death and we can get back to having an all white only election for a president.

There are some pretty skanky bigots posting here but I have to say, you are the first among equals.

Those days are gone. If anything, the campaign of Herman Cain, and the presidency of Barack Obama have broken the proverbial "glass ceiling", and we can never go back again.
You lose. LOL.

And there is no getting your mother out.

By the way Damo - this is not free speech, this is hate speech.

And it creates a hostile environment for any person of color on your board. Not that I think you give a shit, but I do.

Right, pointing out how the left has attacked this guy by using the same words that Mott the Hoople uses when saying the right wants the 'n' word out is 'hate speech' when this guy uses it, but not when Mott uses it.

I get it.

Webb is a racist. I understand that. However, not everything he says is "hate speech"... just a bunch of what he says.

I am not so sensative to be insulted by bad spelling, I suspect my audience is also not so sensative. If so they are mamby pamby ninny's.

Its about, I know the secret code and you dont, I am better than you!

Because how do I know just how serious or prepared your intent is, if you can't get the simpl concept of your own native language right?

Elitism... you would only be serious if you learned my secret code and used it properly. Otherwise you are not as good as me cuz you failed to learn proper code.

Where exactly is the element of 'secrecy' in spelling?

Proper spelling and grammar isn't a secret.

To many its about education and if you got a proper one or not. If your parents did not care enough or have enough money to ensure you learned the code, you are not in the same class as those who did and thus cant be as smart or "serious" of a person. Its not a secret to you, because you are educated enough to know how to access it, and indoctronated enough to care enough to do it.

To others there are "defects" in the brain that inhibit the ability to properly spell, or to even know that you spelled something wrong. To me, as long as the intent is conveyed, who cares, except elitists.

I don't like when Mott does it and I'm not defending it, but we've all read enough of his posts to know he's not a racist or a bigot. However, webbway never has a good word to say about any race except caucasian, so we can't point to his comments and say he was just being facetious.

OT, but I noticed some words posted link to other sites (Mott the Hoople, San Fran). Is this something new with the system?

I would disagree with that assessment. I think Mott IS a racist. Not as in your face as Webb (which is why I have webb on IA and not Mott).... but Mott likes using it way too much. He likes projecting racism onto others way too much. The difference between Mott and webb is that Mott feels kind of bad that he is a racist and thus he tries to cover it up.
