CA isn’t helping my mask skepticism

I doubt there’s any virus that’s not attached to an aerosol or droplets. Masks might stop some aerosols/viruses [but then it’s on the front of the mask lol] but unless the mask is fit-tested, air and aerosols leak around the nose and the sides.

So masks might work—a bit lol. It’s pointless to argue with them about it.

And, enters through the eyes as well.

Kudos to Trump & the admin for coming out strongly in favor of masks today.

I'd bet a lot of the skepticism and "debate" ends fairly shortly on this.

No they don't.

Makes no difference. Masks do not prevent spread of the rice-a-rona. Their pores are too large to stop a virus.

Bulverism. Bigotry. False Authority.

They stop the droplets which are the carriers of the disease. The photos show that. In the very beginning, the fact that it is a virus and very small was noted and tests were run with that in mind. You did not discover some arcane fact that hospitals and doctors did not know. They have evidence masks work and that is why they push them so hard. Places that went bigly for masks had less spread of the disease. There is not only a valid premise, that masks work but proof that they worked in statistical data.

Whether masks can stop viruses is essentially an engineering issue: size of the virus vs the [microscopic] holes in the fabric. They don’t ‘stop’ viruses but they can stop droplets. Problem is aerosols: put a mask on—even if it fits snugly, spray an aerosol 6 feet away from you and walk through it.

What happens? You can smell it through the mask. I don’t care who says what—even Donald fricking Trump, masks can only be marginally effective.

In a week or so, you'll forget that you even argued against them.

In a year or so they’ll decide masks weren’t really all that.

Wait for it.

Doubt it.

The issue is that you (and others) thought there was a one-size-fits-all argument regarding masks and viruses.

But it turns out that COVID-19 is quite a bit different than your average Joe Virus. It's much more contagious - it can be spread through breathing & talking, and hangs in the air for longer.

So, masks seem to actually have a significant effect on slowing the spread. Which is why so many changed their position on it within a few weeks of seeing the virus in action. And which is why places like Hong Kong, which had near 100% mask-wearing compliance, did so well.

You’re talking to someone who doesn’t need to be told what to think about masks and viruses lol.

I worked in surgery for 40 years before Fauci came along. Laser surgery can involve vaporizing tissues infected with different kinds of viruses. I’ll spare the details. It requires the use of smoke evacuation protocol and *special masks* designed to keep that shit from infecting your nasal passages. [at least, that’s what they told us. Who knows if they actually worked or not]

No one was allowed in the room with regular surgical masks; and hell no, with cloth masks. We were required to put a sign on the door alerting people to don the appropriate PPE before entering the room. Hardly anyone wanted to go in lol. Imagine that.

Because the virus was in the smoke *vapor* and the smoke was a potential vector for transmission. Save your breath on how COVID ‘is different somehow’.

I don’t care what people are telling you and I don’t care what Trump says, the mask is a false sense of security.

You base a lot of your arguments on this on things are are completely unrelated to COVID-19.

I'm sure they gave those present appropriate masks, and said cloth masks were not as effective. The thing is, we can't equip all Americans with appropriate masks right now.

Cloth masks will have to do for a lot of folks. That doesn't mean they're ineffective. It doesn't even mean they're marginally effective. They could be just a step down, and still wildly effective in slowing this thing down.

Try to set aside what you've learned, which I'm sure is more than the average person - and at the same time accept that you don't know everything on the topic, especially as it relates to a new virus like COVID-19, which has quite a few behaviors that are still baffling those who are studying it.

Flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat, and sometimes the lungs.
Amazing. All these years. And, Fauci. No shutting down, no masks called for. :palm:
