I think several of the things in the bible are nothing but story's for inspiration, but comparing the book to children's tales is a little much. The bible needs some serious facelift from the old testament stuff, written in barbaric times. The attitudes were very different, and primal back then, so keeping the same wordings is weird. If something was thought punishable, it gets crazy in description of the barbaric ideas of punishment.
