I could understand it at international evens, but why do I need to prove my patriotism at home. It has become meaningless to me at local events. It’s been over used to the point of being meaningless.

You just answered your own question. Athletes, students and spectators have to prove their loyalty (in other words, being enforced, put into submission, or other means). When they are out there, they will have to prove that, regardless of their views.

That is the reason why they have been having problems with certain types of people such as conscientious objectors and religious people (JWs).

Once again Brittney Griner has been playing basketball in Russia since 2014... She is well paid.. By now she would have been very aware of their rules and regulations. It was her choice to ignore them and no way was it unintended... did the punishment fit the crime? It's Russia... her only hope is for them to decide that they'll accept some kind of prisoner swap but they're going to play games with Joe for all it's worth... the situation would be different if it wasn't him in "charge"...Playing The Anthem will always be a cherished tradition... especially at athletic events..if you don't like it don't go..or participate... Have you ever seen what happens at a game if the mic isn't working or the recording isn't playing? The crowd takes over and sings acapella...Because this is America! And people are proud to be Americans... well most of us are:)
