BREAKING: Newly elected Louisiana GOP Rep. Luke Letlow, 41, dies of coronavirus

We can cure most STDs, and treat others (HIV/Herpes). Not much to do for COVID and the damage it causes.

Now we can. It wasn't that long ago in the 20th Century that we couldn't cure most STDs. People were severely harmed then too. That doesn't make it okay today, just more understandable about our species and what we can and can't do.

A big problem is cultural: Why, for the past several decades, do only ~60% of people get their flu shots? Why are healthcare workers refusing vaccinations now? That's not a medical tech issue, that's a sociological/cultural problem. Solving it may also encourage more people to practice safe pandemic procedures.

Politicizing stuff like this is what is causing the problems. Most health care workers won't have a choice -- their institutions will require it, or they'll have to find other employment.

“We are all kensyians now”

Remember what had to be done to save us from the Bush crash idiot liar

Ahh, yes. The ol' LBJ "we had to burn the village in order to save it" Democratic Party motto of social engineering.

Got it. Thanks for the reminder.

Agreed. Why do so many accept it? People don't wake up and say "I think I'll become a political nut job" or any kind of nut job. They have to grow into it.

Trump didn't invent this sociological mess, he just exploited it. Drawing and quartering him on the Rose Lawn then sticking his head on a pike in front of the White House will only give some people personal satisfaction and not solve a damn thing currently wrong with our nation in 2021.

I agree that he is a symptom of the national cancer and not the cancer itself.

Agreed. Better, IMHO, to focus upon curing the social cancer which Trump so gleefully exploited and will continue to do so in Florida.

I remember him.

"Politics is show business for ugly people" also means people where ugly is to the bone.

Most of it's all for show. Pure American political kabuki.

They know nothing will change, so why are they willing to look so stupid? My guess is they have a lot of hotheads in their districts and the politicians would like to kill as few as possible over the next few weeks. :)

Hello Bull&Terrier,

I can't speak for conservatives but lets look at it another way. if you are under 65, and healthy you are more likely to die from a myriad of things including driving, falling down, drowning, all these have a greater chance of killing you than covid.

https://www.cdc.gov/injury/wisqars/pdf/leading_causes_of_death_by_age_group_2017-508.pdf

So when you kill peoples livelihoods, hand them a measly 600 bucks but demand they pay all thier taxes, you are going to create more depression, suicides, and strife. it has already shown to lead to increase drugh and aclhohol abuse as well as increase in domestic abuse.

Given all these facts, wouldn't it be better to isolate the at risk and all of us go back to our lives taking precautions such as distancing and masks?

That makes sense but people are stupid. Without really good and coordinated leadership with a unified message people are going to do what they want. Even with government firing on all cylinders there will be a portion of people who simply hate the government and refuse to comply. It's always the rule-breakers that screw things up for everybody else, forcing the requirements to be more drastic. There are already lots of distancing and mask requirements which are being flat blown off, which is resulting in a far greater community transmission rate, hospitalizations and deaths. If we had a much more consistent message from leadership without all the mixed messages we could expect the best result. But one thing we should never expect is for stupid people to act smart. Personally, I don't see why bars and restaurants are open for walk-in business at all. That's just ridiculous. The government should just pay them for their expenses, keep those businesses alive until this is all over. We'd be a lot better off.

Don't you also find it strange, for example in NJ here, they shut down in april at 3% infection rate, we are now, after the election at 15% infection rate and yet, no further shutdowns. Seems odd to me, how about you?

I'm not surprised by that. Initially, nobody knew what to expect or how to deal with a pandemic. So they went safe on all the precautions, not knowing how long that might be required. Then as soon as lots of bottom lines were impacted there was blow back. So they went the other way. Of course the result is they went too aggressive too early; and too lax later on when it was needed.

The Answer is obvious, protect the at risk, open everything back up with reasonable precautions. "Taxing the rich" is not a silver bullet. I would say, perhaps stop giving tax breaks to amazon, walmarts, et al and tax them at the same rate as small businesses.

Yeah, the taxing scam goes a lot deeper than that but that would be a good beginning. And while taxing the rich may not be a silver bullet it is ammo we can use and need to. When it comes to managing our federal budget we need to use everything we've got at our disposal.

Hello Bull&Terrier,

People are tired of covid, they watch as their livelihoods and life savings dwindle as congress argues about stimulus while demanding you pay your taxes while they prevent you from earning an income. Then they if they don't say it see St. Fauci calling people stupid to justify lying to us on more than one occassion. They see as for months at a 3% infection rate they killed our small businesses while walmart, amazon, etc all profited greatly. They are tired and sick of it, and many are afraid to say so due to the PC cancel culture, They don't want to be labeled a Karen, or a trump cultist for speaking up so they suffer.

But there is a boiling point, and what you are seeing imo, with this 15% infection rate and they want my kids to go back to school, is a relief valve. One that I think personally was timed to the election. 100 days biden said, 25 days ago. masks will be over. do you believe him?

I don't think this answer is logical. I think they killed our small businesses for political gain. The media agitators, the murderous democrat governors all went insane over covid when it was over 1% infection rate. My Jits school went underground, my buddies gym was not allowed to open unless infection rates went under 3%, they banned ice hockey for the same reason, now, suddenly we are at the peak of infection rates and all these things are now allowed to be open? That's so fucked up. Buddy of mine has a famous comic book/record store. He was forced to shut down on black friday and small biz saturday, so all his customers went to walmart to get thier records. Home depot, allowed to be open, ace hardware, shut down.

of course it does, and when you give near monopolies like amazon, giant tax breaks while demanding shut down businesses pay thier taxes, something is very very wrong.

Of course I believe him. He has no reason to lie. Biden was totally right. Unfortunately what he said was IF everyone does the right thing and cooperates.

That isn't happening, so we can forget the 100 days. BECAUSE of the irresponsible ones who are trying to pretend there is no pandemic - during a very real and deadly pandemic.

They could have what they really want - no pandemic risk - if they just accept and truly adhere to the guidelines and stick it out for the 100 days.

You are entitled to your own view. I disagree. All of the measures taken to reduce the transmission rates make sense. A big box store is a bigger more open space. It is more possible to keep distant in one of those stores than it is in a small sole proprietor shop.

Personally, I won't set foot in a big box store unless it is something I really have to have. I am doing without a lot of stuff I would like. Even though there is plenty of space in there to keep distant, people are not adhering to the guidelines. They are walking around with no mask, or the useless chin mask, or the next-to-useless cloth mask, and they are not keeping distance. I only go grocery shopping mid week at 7AM when the store first opens. There are fewer people and most of them are far more responsible than the crowd later in the day. The other people in there are doing the same thing I'm doing. They need food but they want to minimize risk.

of course it does, and when you give near monopolies like amazon, giant tax breaks while demanding shut down businesses pay thier taxes, something is very very wrong.

Small businesses should be kept alive by having their expenses covered with government payments. The likes of Amazon and all the other big billion dollar businesses should be taxed to pay for it.
