That was sorta my point.
In China, where Daoism was invented, it is still widely practiced as a conventional religion. It was invented to conform to Chinese spiritual and religious needs.

Starting in the 1960s in the United States, Daoism and Buddhism were imported and twisted to fit Beatnik, hippie, Hollywood, and New Age sensibilities. Eastern mystique caught on as a fad in USA beginning in the 1960s, and continues to this day. In some sense, Americans stripped away the ritual religious practice and tried to make it an atheist philosophy of life.

I'm not sure that is really authentic Chinese Daoism, in the conventional sense..

But I suppose one could take the ethical and philosophical teachings of Hinduism, Christianity, Judaism, strip out the theism, and call one's self a Hindu atheist, a Christian atheist, or a Jewish atheist.

Currently around 2 to 5 active TV evangelists are black....I'm talking about MSM major networks....God knows what's going on with all the various cable & pay for view stations. I was just setting Moosie straight re: his insinuation.
