bill stripping Disney of self governing status goes to Governor for signing

Like I said, Disney can afford it. Floridians can fight that if they try and pass it along.

Disney should keep footing the bill after DeSantis's legislation let's them off the hook for it. Out of the kindness of their hearts as a big thanks for calling them pedos. It's only fair.

You "don't think" it would be? 50 million visitors?

At minimum, it would be devastating to many businesses in Orlando. It's sort of typical self-centered conservatism to minimize the impact and express support for it just because Disney is "woke," without considering the negative impact for many.
no i didnt say it wouldnt be a big change -but more and more people are coming and staying at Disney owned resorts
So the Mouse gets all the cash. More and more Europeans and of course Brazilians ect
Walt Disney World® Resort, is both in Osceola county and Orange County (but not city of Orlando)
Disney is headquartered in Kissimmee (Osceola)

The bill now heads to the governor's desk

The move could have huge tax implications for Disney, whose series of theme parks have transformed Orlando into one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations, and serves to further sour the relationship between the Republican-led government and a major political player in the state.

The special status, known as The Reedy Creek Improvement Act, was signed into law in May 1967 by Gov. Claude Kirk in response to lobbying efforts by Disney. The entertainment giant proposed building a recreation-oriented development on 25,000 acres of property in a remote area of Central Florida's Orange and Osceola counties, which consisted of 38.5 square miles of largely uninhabited pasture and swampland.

Orange and Osceola County did not have the services or resources needed to bring the project to life, so the state legislature worked with Disney to establish the Reedy Creek Improvement District, a special taxing district that allows the company to act with the same authority and responsibility as a county government.

That means it passed the legislature, he will sign it.

Disney is dead, anything after he died has been corrupting the Walt Disney legacy.

They should get no special considerations in this day and age.

Walt Disney would never have made the "Anastasia" Disney film.

PS: Fuck Disney, they don't make my world go 'round in ary a way. If I never went there again, it would be fine by me.

Their pedos should be subject to going up to Raiford and meeting Mama Hurt.

Because Mama hurt when that big 'un came out. FL has some big boys. I was buying some good bacon at this fruit stand up in Perry, and in come ol' girl's 2 boys to help close up shop.

These dudes were huge and wearing overalls with no shirt. And lookin' mean. I was glad to get outta there.

I'm just an avg-sized FL boy..built the same, but I ain't 6'7".

Doubtful I could scoop 345 lbs.

Looks to me the FL legislators and gov. are just picking a needless fight. The republicans everywhere are already acting like they've won the '22 and '24 elections and beyond.
I've said it many times - whoever's in charge always goes too far.
It will be good to see the dims kicked out but this is not good. You heard it here first.

There should be no tax increase to citizens. Disney is making a fucking killing.

Disney pays for the services the municipal government usually pays with taxes. Now Disney might not, since the quid pro quo has been taken from it. Why should they? And how does DeSantis and the Legislature justify punishing Disney not for anything it did but for what it said?

Is this the new Republicanism?

I have to wonder if this may not blow up in Hizhonor's face.
FLA has been NOT spending a lot of money in local govt expenses for what 50 years down there. And there is no new revenue stream to pick up the costs associated with these new things to do.
I'm smelling a whole new and not so small new entertainment tax being added onto the cost of a visit to there and that cant help but impact its ability to be the happiest place on earth.
Guess we will find out pretty soon.

In Florida? Florida ain't famous for putting uncomfortable or accurate numbers on anything that would effect DeSantis

I was thinking more along the lines of Lincoln Project using raw data re. the financial consequences of DeSantis' shit show. Again...just before his election.

And he don't want to brag about the fact he is neutralizing the Black vote in Florida, racism isn't a can of worms he wants to open willingly

Admitting to drawing lines by race doesn't even get a passing interest by this Supreme Court. Still, he'll cloak it in some MAGA nonsense about making safer elections with less fraud. It seems to me that his base (you know better than I about how vast that is) gobbles down every racist/homophobic/misogynist bill he signs.

How can he 'hide' his intentions when these laws are so blatantly disgusting?

Again I'm expecting the Lincoln Project to shine light on these issues by late summer.

Disney is carrying about $1billion in debt via bonds. That debt is now Florida's problem.

Disney could shop itself around to other warm weather states who will be happy to give them the deal that they had in Fla.. Spend billions on a new Disney and avoid the property taxes that DeSantis is about to try to impose. It works for the NFL.

Disney could fuck right the hell off and move to Minnesota for all I give a shit. They do not make my world go 'round in ary a way.
