I understood how and why ditzy was wrong, just fine. 1 can be divided by 3 into equal values of 1/3. You seemed to understand it to when you said...

we can divide one into three equal parts, we just cannot express that fact using the decimal system

But then you showed your stupidity and confusion with...

well, actually no, its just that the difference between the "equal" parts can be so small the human eye can't measure it......if you express it as .3 to the 7 millionth power you still have .01 to the 7 millionth power left over......

We do have a base 12 system. It's not used frequently, but that has no bearing on the fact that we can, in fact, divide 1 into equal thirds.

reminds me of the story where a mother is splitting the last cupcake between her two kids....she cut it in half and one said "his half is bigger"......she said "you're right" and took a big bite out of the other kid's half........that kid promptly said "hey, now his is bigger".....she said "You're right" and took a big bite out of the other half.....neither kid complained after that....

you can divide a cake into three equal parts.....but if you weigh them on a scale accurate to a millionth part, you will find they are not in truth, equal.....
