Bill Maher on all religions being equal - "That's Liberal Bullshit"

I don't see the professor ever agreeing with him.

I dislike Maher's rants on this, and he goes on a lot of them. I had actually stopped watching him for a while after one of his more disgusting anti-muslim rants.

I also dislike listening to liberals on this subject. I've never known any subject that had me more conflicted. I basically hate everyone on this. I think liberals way over-simplify this, but I think righties do too.

I actually made a comment on a news site underneath a story about pictures that were supposed to be "feel-good". One of them was of two women wearing burqas in afghanistan holding up a sign expressing condolences to the people of Boston. I don't know how the eff a picture of two women wearing burqas is supposed to make me "feel good". Of course, I was viciously attacked by liberals for my comment. At the same time I repel from the hate expressed by people such as Brent, and of course, many other righties, some of them public figures. I don't fit in anywhere on this topic, and agree with almost no one.
I have to admit Darla....sometmes your babbling is right up there with Dixies rants. I haven't a clue what you're talking about! LOL

Todays liberals were not around or old enough to vote for any of that bullshit. The liberals of today are not the same liberals who followed classical liberalism back in the day.

Thing is everyone has the right to believe in what religion they want to,and no one should be discriminated against because of their religion. But at the same time religions do not have the right to force their religious beliefs on others,Be they christian or Muslim.
Personally I think all religion is bunk. But that's my personal opinion.

I agree. The purpose of a religion is to find inner peace and enlightenment. Even the word Jihad is bastardized by the extremists. From what I've been told from a friend who is a practicing Muslim, jihad is the personal struggle between the flesh and the spirit, the material and the divine....so in effect, it is a "Holy War", but a personal one that everyone fights in their minds.

Going on what you have been told by one muslim. You are a massive collection of knowledge on the subject that you express such an preceived to be enlightened opinion on.
here educate your stupid self for a change.

Jihad
Quran 9:123 vs. Matthew 10:34 . James M. Arlandson

Muslim apologists frequently quote Matthew 10:34, which mentions a sword, drawing a parallel between Christianity and Islam: Jesus and Muhammad both endorse jihad, so why would Christians today complain about it in Islam? However, this parallel is deadly flawed.

To explain more effectively how the two "Founders" differ, this article follows a particular method of exegesis (detailed analysis of a text). First, the historical context of the two verses is explained, so their meaning can be made clear. Second, the literary context—the verses surrounding the two targeted verses—is quoted or summarized, so we do not look at the two verses in isolation. Third, we discuss any important elements within the verses, such as key words. Finally, we will then be in a position to contrast the two verses at the end of the article, applying them to today.

We take Quran 9:123 as our counter-verse to Matthew 10:34 because, as we will see, both share the context of family relations.

9:123 "O you who believe, fight those of the unbelievers near you and let them see how harsh you can be. Know that Allah is with the righteous." (Fakhry’s translation)

The historical context of this verse takes place after a military expedition in early 630, so it is late in Muhammad’s life (he dies of a fever in AD 632). Some scholars regard Sura 9 as the last sura (chapter) to be revealed from on high. Therefore, it sets many policies for Muslims today, and is often interpreted as abrogating or canceling previous verses, even peaceful ones. During the military expedition, Muhammad led a large army of 30,000 soldiers to the northern city of Tabuk in order to confront the Byzantine Christians. This is clearly a Muslim Crusade, centuries before the European Crusades. The Byzantines failed to show up, so Muhammad’s Crusade was fruitless, except he managed to extort a tax from northern tribes for the "privilege" of living under Islam, that is, for not being attacked again. After the Muslims returned, Muhammad scolded the "hypocrites" who had stayed behind and failed to support him. Then he turns to those people who stirred up strife in the community by expressing doubt in Muhammad’s revelations; they needed to be silenced. This latter groups is whom he attacks in 9:123—the "unbelievers." He may wage war on them, without flinching.

Another aspect of the historical context should be considered. Muhammad urges his fighters forward in order to kill the unbelievers, even if the latter belong to the fighters’ own family, as seen in the words "near you" in v. 123, which may imply a relational nearness as well as a geographical one. Be that as it may, the Muslim commentator S. Abdul A’la Maududi informs us:

The Command [to fight] has been repeated at [the] end [of Sura 9] in order to impress on the Muslims the importance of the matter and to urge them to do Jihad and crush these internal enemies, without paying the least regard to the racial, family, and social relations that had been proving a binding force with them.

It is clear, then, that Muslims should not pay even "the least regard to the ... family ... relations," a "binding force" that had encumbered the expansion of Islam. Muslims have been ordered, therefore, to fight their family members in a physical way, in other words, to hit them with sharp swords. Why does Muhammad order this? According to Maududi, it is to "crush these internal enemies."

The literary context of 9:123 shows strife with those refusing to support or even opposing Muhammad. For example, in verse 121 Muhammad complains that the hypocrites do not spend any money in Allah’s cause (code for fighting), so Allah will recompense them accordingly. Next, Muhammad instructs his troops in verse 122 that not all Muslims should go out on a campaign of jihad, but some should stay behind to teach Islam, so they may warn people to beware of evil. Finally, in the verses after 9:123 Muhammad condemns the unbelievers for mocking his revelations. Thus, the literary context does not consist of peace and friendship with Muhammad’s opponents, and that is why he goes on the warpath and to deal with them harshly in 9:123.

Literally, the Koran says the following about the Jews, Christians, and other “unbelievers:”

“O you who believe! do not take the Jews and the Christians for friends; they are friends of each other; and whoever amongst you takes them for a friend, then surely he is one of them; surely Allah does not guide the unjust people.” (Sura 5, verse 51).

“And the Jews say: Uzair is the son of Allah; and the Christians say: The Messiah is the son of Allah; these are the words of their mouths; they imitate the saying of those who disbelieved before; may Allah DESTROY them; how they are turned away!” (Sura 9, verse 30).

“And the Jews will not be pleased with you, nor the Christians until you follow their religion. Say: Surely Allah's guidance, that is the (true) guidance. And if you follow their desires after the knowledge that has come to you, you shall have no guardian from Allah, nor any helper.” (Sura 2, verse 120).

“And KILL them (the unbelievers) wherever you find them, and drive them out from whence they drove you out, and persecution is severer than slaughter, and do not fight with them at the Sacred Mosque until they fight with you in it, but if they do fight you, then slay them; such is the recompense of the unbelievers.” (Sura 2, verse 191).

OK dude, whatever. I could post a diatribe from a "why Christianity sucks ass" website, cherry picking passages from the Holy Bible and tell you to educate yourself. Islam-watch.org?

Personally I think all religion is bunk. But that's my personal opinion.

not in this nation, religions involving great bodily harm and human sacrifice are banned and others have to pass the irs test if they want tax exempt status

i tend to agree with the thought that all religions are bunk, except mine of course...see my definition of my religion

No fault divorce, porn, abortion, gambling, gay "marriage," free condoms in schools, and you say we are about to develop a Christian Theocracy?

what would christians do without divorce...especially christian politicians, after all, they are forgiven their sins...

besides, what would the christian wing nuts do without sin to rail against

you just don't want to be roped in with the racists that hate brown people or hate islam because it goes against the true religion of christianity.

But you need to fight those urges and still realize it's a delusional religion and doctrine.

Islam is an ideology it isn't a race, or sexual orientation, or something one has in their DNA. It's a system of beliefs one adheres too, no different than someone being a republican, or a democrat, or a socialist, or whatever. Ideologies are never free from criticism and mockery.

Nice and easy way to dismiss/ignore the truth. I expected better from you but I now know my mistake..

As for Islam not being equal to Christianity, well that's true. You can blame the various acts of one or two or three people as mad acts, but in Islam this is a relatively common occurance. That means that the problem runs deeper than some mad man/men/woman/women, it has to do with the inherent structure of Islam.

What is the truth? The truth is what you choose to believe. My Christian calling is for me to love even my enemy as I do the Lord. To turn the other cheek when affronted. It's obvious to me( my opinion anyway) that while you may know some passages, perhaps even more than I, is that you don't know Christ. Read the Beatitudes. A good place to start.

The root of violence has more to do with socio-economic condition than religion.

People generally use religion as an excuse for their own agenda. Most religions have a lot of violence in their history.

THANK....YOU.

That is exactly it. Violence aside, it comes down to dogma. A lot of the dogma in religion goes back to what was happening at the time. Some say that the entire book of Revelations was really a rallying call to early Christians caught up in horrific Roman oppression.
Let it be known that I love the lord. But I can't help but question a document that was voted upon by people who were very much oppressors of the faith until Constantine decided to save his empire.

So sue me. I still hold to my warrior heritage when it comes to protecting my family , friends and nation. You being a better Christian than I is good mark for you but has no influence on my decision of how to fight those that would destroy Christianity
immediately is able to gain the power to do so. Truth is that the Leftist/Liberals/Islamists all seek that goal.
You should consider that when you attempt to promote or cheer their ideas here.

So I watched the video, and part of what BM said is true. Islam is the religen that today has a group that is most violent today and the only religen that has that element with any central power.

Some Muslams are great people, some sects of Islam are peace loving and great people. Part of Islam is made up of violent murderous thugs. We must reconize that part of Islam is not.

i do not have a problem with other religions as long as their adherents leave me alone to follow my own path

i once worked with a good man, a christian, that felt sad for me because i was no longer a christian (even though he thought of me as a good man) because i was condemned to hell for my incorrect beliefs, despite that we were friends

personally, my feelings toward someone are determined by their actions, not their beliefs

We must reconize that part of Islam is not.

this is succcch a moot point. NOBODY ever said that every single muslim is like a terrorist or something. The fact you keep repeating this mantra is retarded. Obviously out of 1 billion people not every muslim is a psychopath. Most probably just believe in a watered down fluff faith like most other religious people. Although 20% of muslims worldwide do support death for apostasy.
