Could "Big Balls" have surrounded the car? No, so he did not get in the way. There was something that made the beating up of "Big Balls" more important than getting to the car, or even running from the police.
He did something that if not responded to would cause the 15 year old girl to lose status. To her, responding to that was more important than avoiding jail time.
Do you thing he ran around the car at the speed of light blocking anyone from coming into contact with it?
The police only saw one person actually hitting him, the 15 year old girl. She was so into hitting him, she did not even try to run from the police.

I think he pushed the lady into the car and told her to lock it then got enough in the way that the carjacking and other assault that may have taken place did not. Do you think all 10 were going to get in the car?
You think each one of them had to enter the car? I have never carjacked a car, but I would assume you would work out with the other people involved who would actually enter the car. Trying to get everyone into the car would generally not work.
That is his story. His story was also that he did not know his girlfriend, and that the 15 year old girl was actually a man in his 20's... Or a 14 year old girl.
"Big Balls" seems to have a lot of stories. I will wait for the story of why he drove his car to an open air drug market at 3:00 in the morning.
Why do you think "Big Balls" went to an open air drug market at 3:00AM? The 15 year old girl was in her own neighborhood, so might just be hanging out well past a reasonable bed time... But she was probably there to sell drugs.
So he went there to buy drugs, she went there to sell drugs, somehow this drug deal went wrong, and she became so interested in beating the crap out of him that she ignored the police running up on her.

A 15 year old in an open air drug market at 3:00AM? Even if she is not involved with drug dealing, it is bad parenting.
