I do believe he does have dementia, and that our "real" President is a handful of handlers who write his script for him and get him to say it when he's in his functional hours or after a medication cocktail that can get him to function for a bit. But I think that it is still capable of being handled at this time. But if he's just putting a lid on any debate at all without regard to the consequences... Well, I don't think the US voters are being served well at all by this.

trump will do no debates of any kind. He can't. He has no platform, and his schtick doesn't play well on the national stage.

We saw his idea of a debate in the last campaign when he avoided debating entirely by interrupting with blather whenever Biden had the floor. He did it to mask his cowardice to take on Biden in a format grounded in thoughtful knowledge of issues rather than his own format of personal insult and boasting.

And...his antics post election loss are now fodder for attack by Biden. Say nothing of his record from his tenure as POTUS... something he couldn't allow to be discussed in '20. Which is why he had to resort to the tactics you mention.

How can we forget 'stand back and stand by'. ?

1) I did a word search on the word debate in your article and got zero hits.

2) You had to hop in your time machine and time travel back to deep in the 20th century to track down examples of sitting incumbent presidents who faced a serious primary challenge.

3) There is no challenger within 20 percentage points of Biden, nor is there likely to be.

4) Anyone sentient human who has followed politics for more than six months knows it's a cardinal rule of the political game to not debate opponents who are so far behind you in polling numbers that they don't even rate as a viable opponent.

Why don't you write a book? Wait, do you know what books are? If you do, there is a great need for a book on that theme since it is certain none yet exist while countless books are in libraries and elsewhere that tell us in so many words that The United States was founded as, and remains, a representative democracy, i.e., a society with a government composed of citizens chosen by other citizens, as compared to a direct democracy as the Athenians tried for a time. Of course there is still some direct democracy. We have it in many small towns where direct democracy is not impracticable and important questions like the annual budget can be decided by residents at town meetings.
So give this book idea some thought.

Allowing trump to complete what he started in '17 would be the end of the nation as we know it.

He's promised as much.

Beat him in '24, and sit back as he slowly dies in front of millions.

The televised debates are for idiots.

You have two minutes to give an answer that will solve the world's problems.

Everybody's mic is on live at the same time, so they speak over once another.

The moderators ask stupid questions to begin with.
They're TV personalities, not PhD's in political science.

Go to the candidates' websites.
Read their uninterrupted views, expressed with all the time needed to express them.

The debates are to choose which personality you like,
and people voting personalities instead of issues
is how America has become the dumpster fire that it is now.

It is not normal for a sitting president to debate in the primaries. I wish they would, but giving some meaning to Biden not doing it, when nobody does is silly.

Blatant lie. Joe Biden doesn't know what year it is, where he is, or where he is going. He waves to people that aren't there. He tries to shake hands with people that aren't there.
