But they already have F-16's that can protect their skies.
And almost no politician buys military equipment because it is good, IMO.
They buy it for votes.
And the Polish leader looks 'cooler' if he buys 'state-of-the-art' F-35's rather than 'same old, same old' F-16's.
And btw, the F-35 works fine (apparently).
All new weapons systems have teething troubles.
The problem with it is it's (apparently) not remotely as stealthy as advertised.

And is thus, WAY too expensive for what it offers.
Other than the F-35B - I think the plane was a colossal mistake.
The Pentagon should have bought an F-22B bomber variant for the Air Force.
And developed the F-22N for carrier work.
