You would think because the shell is bigger that it is also more powerful. But it isn't. The 9 mm is more powerful . Look it up if you think we are wrong. I own a couple .38 and a couple 9 mm and a .40 cal I like them all and they all will do the job.
For the 9 mm vs 38 Spl debate…it’s a good article and scientifically/physically sound.

From the article:
There’s a great chart for the varying bullet weights, speed and foot pounds at impact there too. I like both cartridges BTW. Have both. Have carried both. To each his own.
Barrel length also plays a part in both velocity and energy. I had a 9mm years ago (4" barrel) and sold it.
I still have my S&W K.38 (6" barrel) and nearly 800 rounds loaded with cast wad cutters, round nose and hollow points. I'm good...

Look up the ballistic charts and loads. You'll find I'm correct.
This is stuff I've known for a long time. Chronographs and all.
I just posted proof here: https://www.justplainpolitics.com/s...2-suggests-banning-them&p=5130973#post5130973

You're only looking at (average?) velocity, without considering the other factors such as energy, powder type and charge, bullet weights and configurations and barrel lengths.
IIRC its more like 17,000 and 33,000Well that's fine! But 9mm has more velocity.
They use different smokeless powders, dude.
Yeah, I didn't want to start about pressures n stuff, but I think 9mm is 42K and .38 Special is 35K.
Ok, I done started, whatever.
Give it up RB the two bullets are even close. A .38 cal gun can't handle 9mm pressures. You're only looking at (average?) velocity, without considering the other factors such as energy, powder type and charge, bullet weights and configurations and barrel lengths.

"Quick 38 SPL Facts
One of the lowest pressure handgun rounds still commonly used for self-defense, with a mediumweight bullet and slow muzzle velocity. Shooters often prefer overpressure rounds for self-defense."

I could stop a motherfucker cold with my .38 Special if I could find it.
In the meantime, I have a .44 with closer to 9mm ballistics.
..Or exceeding..
Like I said, I sold the 9mm and kept the .38. It was more accurate than the 9mm.

It depends on the gun and barrel lengths when it comes to pressures. They can be close, but I will concede the 9mm does hit higher velocities.
But again, I kept the S&W K.38 because it was more accurate. The S&W K.22 I have is more accurate than the K.38.
BTW, my carry gun is a Government issue 1911. Even less velocity than both the 9mm and the .38.
Will Arby concede that .38 Special doesn't have the punch 9mm does, or not? It's just not as powerful. It's 2 different bullets from different times.
You can shoot straight through 2 motherfuckers with 9mm, you can't do that with .38 Special. (and that's not a bad thing)
I believe I just did, Matty. But depending on the gun and barrel lengths, they are pretty close.
That depends on the bullet.
I seem to have missed that epic event. Link?
Just in from Fox News: Biden calls 9mm ‘high-caliber weapons,’ suggests banning them
He'll never pass a ban in today's environment.
