Biden calls 9mm ‘high-caliber weapons,’ suggests banning them

You would think because the shell is bigger that it is also more powerful. But it isn't. The 9 mm is more powerful . Look it up if you think we are wrong. I own a couple .38 and a couple 9 mm and a .40 cal I like them all and they all will do the job.

I would not want to catch any of them, but 9mm is more powerful than .38 Special. Even with the best bullets.

40 cal is more powerful than both.

For the 9 mm vs 38 Spl debate…it’s a good article and scientifically/physically sound.

From the article:

There’s a great chart for the varying bullet weights, speed and foot pounds at impact there too. I like both cartridges BTW. Have both. Have carried both. To each his own.

Barrel length also plays a part in both velocity and energy. I had a 9mm years ago (4" barrel) and sold it.
I still have my S&W K.38 (6" barrel) and nearly 800 rounds loaded with cast wad cutters, round nose and hollow points. I'm good...

Agreed on barrel length. Big difference between a 2" revolver and a 6" version. Back in the day, all the State Troopers carried 6" Pythons in .357. Great for shooting fleeing criminal cars.

As I stated above, I have a S&W K.38 and sold the SIG 9mm. The .38 (loaded to max with a light bullet) is harder hitting and more accurate than the 9mm was, which is one reason I sold it..

Well that's fine! But 9mm has more velocity.

They use different smokeless powders, dude.

Yeah, I didn't want to start about pressures n stuff, but I think 9mm is 42K and .38 Special is 35K.

Ok, I done started, whatever.

You're only looking at (average?) velocity, without considering the other factors such as energy, powder type and charge, bullet weights and configurations and barrel lengths.

Meh

"Quick 38 SPL Facts

One of the lowest pressure handgun rounds still commonly used for self-defense, with a mediumweight bullet and slow muzzle velocity. Shooters often prefer overpressure rounds for self-defense."

I could stop a motherfucker cold with my .38 Special if I could find it.

In the meantime, I have a .44 with closer to 9mm ballistics.
..Or exceeding..

Give it up RB the two bullets are even close. A .38 cal gun can't handle 9mm pressures.

IIRC its more like 17,000 and 33,000

I ain't one to dispute. I just know that 9mm is higher pressure and more velocity.

Pretty sure .38 Special can handle more than that, though.

"By comparison, the .38 Special Proof Round, which the manufacturer uses to test and certify firearms, is rated at 29,500 CUP"

Idk man.. my .38 Special is like..950 fps. (@ 124 grains)

Regular ball 9mm is 1150 fps+ albeit 115 grains.

Then there's the 9mm NATO which is like 1250 fps @ 124 grains.

Like I said, I sold the 9mm and kept the .38. It was more accurate than the 9mm.

Yeah, I'd keep the more accurate one, too. I'm wired like that..

There's a reason I chose the Ruger .357 over the Dan Wesson .44 back in the day.

And lemme tell ya, my .38 Special puts both of those guns to shame.

It's a good shooter.

That thing's grouping is excellent. It's an M&P Model 10-7.

Fixed sights, ofc. But I know where to aim and where the bullets will go.

It's my 3rd-4th most accurate gun. It impressed me.

It depends on the gun and barrel lengths when it comes to pressures. They can be close, but I will concede the 9mm does hit higher velocities.
But again, I kept the S&W K.38 because it was more accurate. The S&W K.22 I have is more accurate than the K.38.

BTW, my carry gun is a Government issue 1911. Even less velocity than both the 9mm and the .38.

Will Arby concede that .38 Special doesn't have the punch 9mm does, or not? It's just not as powerful. It's 2 different bullets from different times.

You can shoot straight through 2 motherfuckers with 9mm, you can't do that with .38 Special. (and that's not a bad thing)

I believe I just did, Matty. But depending on the gun and barrel lengths, they are pretty close.

That depends on the bullet.

I seem to have missed that epic event. Link?

But back on topic, Biden doesn't know anything about guns and ammo if he thinks (compared to all the other calibers available) that the 9mm is a "high-caliber weapon," whatever that means.
