So ALL of Michigan is now inside Detroit?

ALL of Michigan is footing the bill for 50% of the stadium. Could probably use that money elsewhere.

The good in this type of thing is that there is indeed a boost in construction and related jobs while the thing is built, but long term the upside just isn't there. At least it's an arena, though, that'll host 41 home games and has other useful functions. Football stadiums are the biggest boondoggle. 8 home games and not as many accessory uses.

I just think maybe the gov should have helped the city a bit don't you?

we have.....in billions.....besides, none of this money is being paid by Detroit.....its state backed bonds sold to private investors.....shucks, if they were Detroit backed bonds you could forget it ever happening....

Yeah, Ford Field was a travesty.

every one?

that is awesome

Over a dozen at least. Of course since the city/county spend a metric fuck ton on roads every year, it's not going to do anything except line the pockets of the same shitty contractors who've been fucking up our roads for at least a generation.

Oh well, of course since there's some corruption, that's just a perfect excuse to let the bridges and roads continue to deteriorate.

I'll be happy to condemn spending on a new stadium while they take the city into bankruptcy.

Generally studies show cities who spend big on stadiums don't get the money back. It depends how much the city gives away and how much they put up front and all that.

Would be nice to think the stadium will help Detroit, but unless the contract is ironclad I wouldn't bet on it.

In terms of the "city council" approving this - "emergency manager", remember? pretty sure there's no city council left.

Well it's not the cities money for starters. It's the states. And only 50%. And yeah, the city council still exists for some gods forsaken reason.
