#BankingWhileBlack: Bank employee calls police on black man trying to cash a check

So my bank has called to confirm when I wrote checks for over a grand to white people. they also called to confirm when I wrote large checks to black people. That particular bank is a bit of a PITA. They gave me a hard time trying to deposit a check from one of my business accounts into another business account as if that somehow is part of a grand conspiracy to rob myself. I have known one of the VP's of the bank since I was a child and have called her while standing right there in front of the teller when they were giving me too much non-sense static. I only get it at the most convenient branch to me that is in a bad part of town so I get the paranoid thing, but common sense should tell you that transferring money from one business account to the other is neither uncommon nor high risk for fraud.

Lol, I had to have a black guy meet me at the bank one time before they would cash the check he wrote to me. And, we both banked there. Banks don't like hand written checks. Normally, I would just deposit the check, but in this case I had some subcontractors I had to pay.

And you're right about Huntington Bank, they suck.

Maybe he needed the money immediately.

I always wonder if people who don’t understand the need, sometimes, to get cash immediately are the same people who’ve never had to experience living paycheck to paycheck. Sometimes a person just needs cash.

Then on the other side of the coin, sometimes I cas small checks like $1000 to use for walking around money. Maybe that what Mr. McCown had planned.

Either way the action taken seems quite extreme.

Of course you do, libs always want to sue for every little thing. Yes, the guy was treated badly, so that means he should automatically sue? Also remember, this is Cleveland, there's a good chance whoever called the cops is black, and chances are the cops are black as well. Since the news stories don't mention the race of the bank employees, or the cops, that chance goes up exponentially. Libs always have to assume race is involved, probably because they can't imagine that everyone isn't as racist as they are. I bet there's more to this story.
You know there's more to the story....

It really doesn't matter why he wanted to cash his check, that's his business, and nobody else's.

this is yet again another act of racism the right denies is racism

It very well could be, but we don't have enough information to make that determination definitely. What was the race of the bank employees who gave this guy a hard time, and called the cops? What was the race of the cops? Do you know?

Lol. I wouldn't bet the farm, but I wouldn't hesitate to bet twenty bucks or so.

Ten fraud arrests with the branch since July...Employees ' on high alert....this one overreacted in calling the police, but when they were unable to verify the check for such a large amount....
why not go to the bank who issued the check, if you don't have an account anywhere...?
Lots of missing info on the "event"...I bank there...metal detectors now...you can't just walk in any more... Things have changed for many reasons...just understand the process and avoid problems....

He was arrested, on what charge? Yes, I would sue for false arrest. I said nothing about the color of his skin.

Where does it say he was arrested? He was detained for a few minutes. And don't get me wrong, I'm not condoning that, but there's no need to exaggerate.

Excuse me, handcuffed and detained, put into a patrol car. All extreme and unnecessary for someone who committed no crime.

So he was not arrested. Just a bit different...
Very few articles mention that employees were on alert for fraud...wonder why?
