Now answer my question chemist.
What is it about talc which makes it a likely carcinogen?
There are two main problems.

Well for a start, it is a biological issue not a chemical one. Secondly asbestos related compounds have not been used in talc since the 1970s. Thirdly even if talc was carcinogenic, albeit incredibly slightly, then surely the users would be getting mesothelioma not ovarian cancer?

Yep it certainly works for your fellow ambulance chasers. Only in America would you need to put warnings on cups of coffee that the contents are hot.

I couldn't agree more. The author of this thread is obviously such an American.

Sure he is and sure he does. The moron can't even read.

I'm inclined to agree. That he/she apparently thinks lawyers have an ethical obligation to bring every kind of case all the time every time, with or without a harmed person as a client, and is a lawyer is too extravagant to be maintained.

Lawsuits can't be brought just because a cause or purpose exists. Concepts of justiciability, standing, political question doctrine, causation, damages, separation of powers, and more stand to check ephemeral, speculative, broad policy lawsuits.

I presume a lawyer would know this. Who knows, maybe south Texas is different.

Sometimes. Sometimes, it's just a way to take advantage of a crazed public. Tylenol suffered greatly after some idiot tainted a handful of packages. In the 90's it was alar in apple juice.

Can't argue with this, but I might anyway.

It truly baffles me why you feel it necessary to take up cudgels for another, do you think Micawber is incapable of defending himself?

I'm merely pointing out the MO of this moron. Miscomprehends, twists, distorts, lies. The object of his bullshit is irrelevant. The idiot has used the same tactics with me.

You got a problem with that? Gonna defend this cretin?

There have been far too many of these bullshit scare stories. Look at DDT for instance. How many millions have died from malaria all due to the EPA, Rachel Carson and her stupid book the Silent Spring!!

Before we digress, let me just state two basic things:

The legal standard of proof is "defective product unreasonably dangerous."

The cases are litigated to a jury of peers with experts on both sides requiring in many states 9 of 12 for civil liability. Federal it is unanimously.

So before you go on a tirade of anecdotal indignity blaming the evil bench or bar or media or EPA or Nixon or whomsoever, requiring me to give counter examples of all the beneficial aspects of tort law, understand these two things. There is a sensible and difficult burden and the jury decides.

I wager that there are many containers that preexist the '80s, the time when the largest talc mine in the country stopped mining talc contaminated with asbestos. Long fiber talc is very similar to asbestos with long parallel fibers which could also readily adhere.
Since in powdered form it is also friable it has potential to be a carcinogen imho.
