Are police systemically racist?

Police target high crime zones. Is that a bad thing?

High crime zones tend to be overwhemingly black neighborhoods therefore targeting them is rayciss.
They seem to want to be left alone like South Chicago , or since Freddy Grey, Baltimore.

You are spot on, as many feel it is us versus them.
I remember driving in the New Orleans area and listening to local talk radio at a time when murder was rampant (still may be, IDK).
He defined "us" as citizens and "them" as criminals. FWIW.

It is the application of the laws and practices. In practice, they are used in very racist ways.

But how?

The police are more prominent in high-crime areas. Where are they supposed to go? If the high-crime areas are predominantly black is that the fault of the police?

We could have an argument about why the black areas might be higher crime zones (poverty through institutional racism which lead to generational poverty) but why are the police racist for policing the high-crime areas?

I certainly think the police operate too violently... but then again it's not my ass in the ghetto trying to get a potentially heavily armed criminal to comply with my commands

Maybe all of the police departments suck totally, or maybe we just haven't found a way to cull the bad apples.

I don't fucking know.

Why don't we get healthcare and education for everybody, and worry about it after that?

We're swirling down history's toilet drain as a nation.
We don't have time for distractions, even though the secondary issues are actually important.
We're dead operating as the obsolete nation we are now, and must address that immediately.

Good comment. Mentally ill people may be a danger to people around them--like waving a sword around. Do police get involved? Maybe. But health care is part of public safety, not just police.

Very well said. I agree with all of that

That being said - what country does have it's healthcare and education taken care of and thereby has its crime, poverty and racism under control?

Less than 4 % of the 18,000 police Departments, when it comes to DWB. And of course they are all run by progressive democrat mayors.

Dude your hatred for others is always showing!

Are you just one big ball of hate?

Because you are one hateful spiteful mother-fucker!

Politics is not a game asshole!

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Tex.) asked this provocative question, clearly skeptical that you could answer this in the affirmative. But a number of those testifying said they did think there was structural racism in American policing, and American society writ large.

“I think every American institution has been kind of shaped by these forces,” said Gupta, the former Justice official. That prompted Cornyn to ask, “Do you do believe that basically all Americans are racist?”

Gupta answered, “I think we all have implicit bias and racial bias. Yes, I do.”

no they are not

with regards to Floyd, Chauvin followed MPD protocol to the letter. Everything he did was according to policy. Don't like the policy? Change it. But you aren't going to convict him of murder unless you get a crooked jury which may be likely

If these cops were guilty of systemic racism, these events would be happening BEFORE the perp resists arrest.

Every single cop related murder that makes national news always starts with a perp resisting arrest

Don't want to get shot by a cop? Don't resist arrest

People are not always mentally functional; that's an accident of birth and cannot be controlled with our present knowledge of genetic function.

However, can you tell me what nation that has socialized medicine, reasonable access to good education, and accountable government also has a violent crime history and prison population remotely close to ours?

Not much surprises me on this board anymore but this got my attention. Everything here is one big game. Politics is about winning, and tribalism and trolling and humiliating your opponent. It's nothing but a game (and entertainment).
