"Appalling levels of human despair" in Yemen, yet U.S. stands by "key ally"

A minimum of 10,000 civilians have been killed or wounded in the U.S.-backed war in Yemen, according to the U.N. humanitarian coordinator.

Since the Saudi-led coalition began its bombing campaign in Yemen in March 2015, there has been an average of 13 civilian casualties per day, according to the U.N. Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights. (The U.N. uses the word casualty to refer to both deaths and injuries.)

The U.N. and human rights organizations have thoroughly documented atrocities committed by the Western-backed coalition, and have accused it of committing war crimes. Despite these reports, the U.S. continues to reaffirm its close alliance with its repressive Saudi ally and sell it weapons.

Approximately 3,800 Yemeni civilians have been killed and more than 6,000 have been injured in the war, according to the U.N. In August, the U.N. high commissioner released a report on the situation of human rights in Yemen. It revealed that at least 2.8 million Yemenis, more than 400,000 families, have been forced to flee their homes because of the violence.

“The prolonged duration of the conflict has strongly heightened the disastrous risk of a systemic collapse of Yemen,” wrote Zeid Ra’ad al-Hussein, the U.N. high commissioner. “The resilience of the Yemeni people has been stretched beyond human limits.”

Unfortunately it is very much part of the schism between Sunni and Shia, the Saudis hate the Houthi with a vengeance.

maybe someone should ask why Iran is backing the Houthi & ex-president's forces in Yemen -
which is SA's weakest border defense (SA northern wall is high-tech / south wall isn't much more then a fence )

The big winner so far is AQAP, which has expanded it's territory, and broke into prisons-
releasing terrorists.

SA tried to stay out, but it's border guards were being shot, and Iran was waging war there by proxy.

No matter what the issue is between SA, Yemen and Iran, there we are, meddling again and helping innocents get killed.

I'm more disgusted by the fact that we support the Saudis with their abominable human rights record just because of oil or something. We're supporting their killing all of these innocent Yemeni citizens.

Tom only feigns disgust if the Daily Male shows pics of enslaved women and rape rooms.

how are we meddling? we are providing logistical support only . This isn't interventionism like Libya or Iraq.
I don't know if we are actually aiding the SA blockade of Iranian shipping to Yemen. I do know supplies are intercepted regularly.

About the most complicity we have is intelligence targeting to aid SA bombing.
A big problem is SA doesn't use it's armed forces in an expeditionary manner (it holds them home)-so it's an air war.
SA doesn't want a "quagmire" - stuck in Yemen

It's then reduced to a bombing campaign - and just like Syria where the Russian bombed hospitals-
or Kunduz, Afghanistan where the US recently did the same it's part of war when urban bombing takes place.

We can't tell SA how to prosecute the war - we can't stop Iran from flooding Yemen with material.
Egypt is talking about sending troops ( Sunni Coalition) as is Kuwait..

We are not doing anything but basic aid to keep the war from spilling into SA, and trying to keep Iranian expansionism checked
