No, it's not "absurd." It's quite accurate. If HUD and the government are subsidizing apartment construction, you get more apartment construction. That means less single-family homes are built and more rental units are likewise built. This in turn means an increase in renters versus owners.

These developments of single-family starter homes for rent are in essence just upscale trailer parks.
Home ownership is one of the key ways people and families move up into the Middle Class and rise over time in wealth accumulation. That doesn't happen with rental properties.

I'm thinking it's a good time to build a trailer park just so people can have affordable housing.
If ag could be done on half the land, the taxes could be cut a lot and that saving passed along to renters.

Dude. What's driving home and rent is demand. If people are willing to pay it, sellers and renters will charge it. The median price for a new home in Seattle proper now is close to $1 million. That's why I'm moving to TX in a few months. I can afford a home there, and plus they need me there.
