and the gop wants to cut back on food stamps...hunger in america

Speak of strawmen and a headful of hay, that would be you. It is the working poor who are on food stamps. Do the research!

Silly Rana - don't you know that the Dems only want to give foodstamps to those who need them so they'll vote for them?

:rofl2:

Bullshit. If you are feeding four people for $150.00 per week, two of then are small children AND you are in a region of the country with very low food prices.

Here, figure it out;

My son is 20, and My daughter is 23, then there is my wife and I, and I am telling you that what we spend...Now, I will concede that if we shopped the way we should, and bought food we should be eating all the time, my bill would be higher, but $1250.????Who the hell spends $400 per week on groceries?

A 20 year old and a 23 year old still living at home! What freeloaders!

The average American family of four spends between $610 and $1,203 per month on grocery bills, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture...

I do, but admittedly I live in a resort community, as well as being over a bridge. We eat well, obviously, but I can't fathom feeding my family on even $200/wk nevermind less. Without a doubt though, food is much more expensive here than in the south.

You're kidding right? You mean you never heard this?

(WASHINGTON) -- Defense Secretary Leon Panetta is warning Congress that additional Pentagon budget cuts that would be triggered if the Super Committee fails to reach a deal by next week could lead to significant military cutbacks, including the possible termination of the Joint Strike Fighter program and the end of America’s land-based nuclear missile fleet.

The Pentagon is already working its way through more than $450 billion in cuts over the next 10 years, but Panetta is concerned about a further round of $600 billion in cuts that would be automatically triggered if the Super Committee fails to trim $1.2 trillion from the federal debt.

Panetta argues there would also be significant long-term costs that would leave the United States with the smallest ground force since 1940, a Navy of 230 ships that would be the smallest since 1915 and would leave the Air Force with the smallest number of tactical fighters in its history.

Bullshit, Dixie. There have been plenty of discussions of how spending can be cut without taking the food out of the mouths of the poorest in this country.

For starters, how about defense spending?

"US defense spending had a total budget allocation of $705.6 billion in 2011, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.4% between 2007 and 2011."

We can cut 12.5% of the total defense spending and net a bigger gain than from cutting the entire foodstamp program.

Given the huge amounts of money spent on defense, corporate welfare, and other wastes, the fact that you are throwing a tantrum because some of us balk at cutting the most basic safety net is laughable.

Did you not hear me? We are spending an average of $1.2 trillion more than we take in each year. We are going to need to make massive cuts to our budget for defense AND domestic spending. This idea we can cut defense and fund more social shit, is INSANITY. Paul Ryan's budget proposal called for $400 billion in defense cuts over 10 years. Comes out to about a 14% cut overall, so that's already better than what you suggested (12.5%). But the thing is, that does not balance the budget! We still need to cut other social programs to be able to do this. And by "CUT" I am talking about REAL cuts, not just reductions in the amount of built-in increase, which Democrats scream are CUTS! We simply can not continue to spend over a trillion dollars more than we are taking in, and as some pinheads have pointed out, won't ever have the number of jobs (as in the past) to generate the taxes to pay the debts. If fewer people are going to be working in this "new economy" then we need to REALLY make some drastic cuts, because we're already spending too much, even for the workforce we had 10 years ago.

So we should let Americans go hungry to make up for tax cuts for the rich and big business?

And do you not hear me? I agree we need to make cuts. But the most basic safety net for our citizens is the LAST place we need to make those cuts. We are talking about food for the poor. Not much is more basic than that. As long as we have huge waste in the federal gov't, congressmen taking junkets to exotic locales, handouts for oil companies and other successful corporations, and tax breaks for the wealthy, the foodstamp programs should remain untouched.

And pinheaded liberal fucktards think this is just a WONDERFUL idea, with the Russians and Chinese expanding their military at an alarming rate. Have we literally lived in our secure little bubble world so long, that we take our national security for granted now? Is this how retarded the younger generations have become, that they don't realize and understand that what we have was fought for and paid for with the blood and sacrifice of many great American heroes? That it's just not automatically guaranteed to always be around no matter what? I mean, honest to God, I believe some of these mental midgets wouldn't comprehend the ramifications until they had bombs raining down on their heads! If you retards wake up one morning with a Chinese bayonet in your face, and some soldier screaming at you in Chinese, what the fuck are you going to do then? Call for your Mommy?

Bawahahahahaha, the Russians are coming, the Russians are coming! Starve the people like North Korea does so that our military may be superior! We can always make people fight in exchange for bread!

But there is the problem. Whenever we proclaim a 'sacred cow' then it opens the doors to all the other 'sacred cows' out there. How are we supposed to make cuts to anything, if everyone clings to their favorite program and refuses to hear of it? We do have huge waste in government, that's why we need to be getting government the hell out of the business, and let capitalists do what they do better, wherever we can. There is a tremendous amount of waste in the Food Stamp program, not to mention a tremendous amount of outright FRAUD. Those things need to be examined as well, and maybe if we start cutting the budgets, those things WILL be examined, but right now, why bother? As long as you can pull at people's heart-strings and emotively refuse to budge on ANY cut, none will be made. Do you think the people who handle the Food Stamps are going to voluntarily find ways to save money? ...Oh here Congress, here's $10 billion back from this year's budget, we didn't need it because we found some things to save money on! RIGHT!

Food for the poor... back in the 1940s and 50s, on into the early 60s, we had a program where government surplus food was distributed to poor communities via a commodity truck. One of my favorite things growing up, was visiting my great-aunts who lived in rural Alabama on a red dirt road in an old barn-wood house built in the 1800s. They would make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches using the commodity peanut butter. It was the kind with the oil on top, you had to stir it up each use, and it was kind of gritty, but I loved it as a kid, and wish I had one of those sandwiches right now. The cheese was that way too, just real basic, but so delicious. Why did we abandon that and go to Food Stamps? It was much more efficient, served the needs, and wasn't as prone to fraud. There are ways to reform the system to do things less expensively, and still meet the needs of the needy. We don't have to continue dumping billions and billions more every year, into a program that is essentially bloated with government bean counters, who have to be paid upwards of $100k a year, to sit at a desk and answer the phone.... then paid a hefty retirement pension the like of which none of us ever see in the private sector. This shit has to stop, WB. I'm sorry if you think that is cruel and inhumane, I don't think it has to be. But if we don't start taking this serious and make some changes soon, it's going to be VERY inhumane indeed.

Starving? HAHAHAHAHA! Not in the US...Hell, even our poor have AC, and a TV, Computer, Car, and a cell phone....Poor? pfft....
