so how do you know how much is unreported?
IMO it's like an iceberg. About 50% is unreported.
so how do you know how much is unreported?
Here's an article for your daughter. Gamergate (harassment campaign.) This nasty conspiracy theory extends to many famous women, not just gamers.
Gamergate was a misogynistic online harassment campaign and a right-wing backlash against feminism and progressivism in video game culture, conducted using the hashtag "#Gamergate". Beginning in August 2014, Gamergate targeted women in the video game industry, most notably feminist media critic Anita Sarkeesian and game developers Zoë Quinn and Brianna Wu, among others. The harassment campaign included doxing, threats of rape, and death threats.
Not sure what any of that has to do with the Depp v Heard trial, in cricketing parlance you've just bowled a googlie!
"Depp alleged that he was "shown a picture" of human fecal matter left on his side of the bed, presumably left by Heard, following a 2016 argument. At the time, a witness claimed it was meant as a practical joke."
"Alleged," "shown a picture," "presumably." That's a lot of qualifiers and also shows that Depp didn't see it in person.

It's a jury trial and the jury appears to be star struck. I wish I could believe they'll be impartial but Depp is actor enough to sell them on his victimhood.
There are a bunch of articles about why Heard is so hated on the internet and one of them brought up gamergate.
Why Does the Internet Hate Amber Heard?
In the excerpt below, Derek and The Atlantic’s Kaitlyn Tiffany discuss comparisons between Gamergate and the Amber Heard–Johnny Depp trial and social media responses to the trial.
Derek Thompson: Kaitlyn, why is the internet so obsessed with this trial?
Kaitlyn Tiffany: Well, I think one thing to understand about why so much of the trial stuff seems to be everywhere is that it is emanating from these groups of people that are already really tightly connected and networked. So, that would be the Johnny Depp fandom or related groups that are sympathetic to the Johnny Depp fandom. This is why, I mean, not to draw this comparison right off the top, but this is why Gamergate felt unavoidable, right...?
Tiffany: Yeah. Gamergate’s, I don’t know, arguably the most important cultural, historical event of my adult life. It started actually when I was in my first year as a journalist at a tech website, so I was very intimately acquainted with Gamergate. But basically, Gamergate was this elaborate, I guess you could say, system or network of harassment campaigns that started in the video games sphere and was directed at women in that industry, and then just radiated outward to be this just massive outpouring of misogyny and reactionary politics on the internet...

It doesn't have to be unanimous? They have to obey the law. Like any other trial, the Judge will instruct the jury about the law and the facts for deciding a case. My understanding is that it's a simple majority vote. The jury doesn't have to like Heard to agree the Depp hasn't proved defamation.

It doesn't have to be unanimous?
I just don't know. I heard it was majority vote and then heard the opposite. Maybe Jarod knows. I doubt they would settle. If he wins, I wonder how she would pay it? She doesn't have that kind of money, unless Elon pays it for her.The article/link below hints at a majority vote, but doesn't specify it that I could see. It does give a good synopsis on how the civil court system works. Notice the compensation aspect. Depp could win and be awarded $1.
My understanding of defamation cases is that the rules are a little clearer on how the decision is made.
What do you think are the odds of an out of court settlement? Slim and none? Zero? 50/50?

...If they rule in favour of Heard she will not have to pay Depp any money.
Heard will not go to prison even if the jury decides in Depp’s favour.
This is a civil trial, not a criminal case. Neither Heard nor Depp are being tried on any criminal charges.
A civil case is a court case in which a person or entity (the plaintiff) can find another person or entity (the defendant) liable for some type of harm or wrongful act. When someone is sued, this is a civil case.
If the plaintiff is successful, they will normally receive some form of compensation from the defendant.
A civil lawsuit can be brought over anything from a contract dispute or a residential eviction to injuries sustained in a car accident, or countless other harms or disputes.
Civil cases are intended to compensate the person who is harmed rather than punish the defendant. If the defendant loses a civil case they are not convicted of a crime, as they would be in a criminal case, and they do not face prison – even if they are found found liable for conduct which amounts to a criminal act.
The burden of proof is also lighter in a civil case than a criminal case. In a criminal case the defendant’s guilt must be proven “beyond reasonable doubt”, whereas in a civil case the jury simply has to decide which side of the dispute they believe to be more likely.
Civil cases can also be settled out of court. The plaintiff and defendant’s lawyers will often debate and aim to come up with a sum that can be paid to defendant, ending the court case without a need for it to reach its resolution.

I wonder if Johnny won, everyone would be happy and she would just skulk off into the land of obscurity. Or, if he loses, will she be the most reviled woman connected to Hollywood and never work again? She'd make a good porn actress.![]()

Yep, and all of his ex girlfriends say the same. Winona Ryder and others. Kate Moss takes the stand this week on his behalf.Depp was married to Vanessa Paradise for 14 years and never even the slightest hint of any violent behaviour. Compare that to Heard where she accused him of many incidents in little over 18 months.
Depp was married to Vanessa Paradise for 14 years and never even the slightest hint of any violent behaviour. Compare that to Heard where she accused him of many incidents in little over 18 months.
^And that proves nothing, as we both well know. Just because X didn't happen in the past doesn't mean X can't or won't happen in the future. As for Vanessa Paradis, here's her take about the end of her marriage to Depp:
"Paradis, for her part, never commented directly on the reason behind their split, but she did seem to suggest that she was “unhappy” in their relationship for a time. “Nothing is ever for sure, but when something in love doesn’t work from the beginning, it’s never going to work,” she said in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar. “Don’t push it. Sometimes you could be in an unhappy relationship; you are very much in love with someone, but it’s making you unhappy and you think things can change and you can work it out.”
And here's Johnny's take. While he was with Paradis he abused drugs and alcohol, and cheated on her with Heard. Yeah, a real prince of a fellow.
"Relationships are very difficult,” he went on to note at the time, before alluding to distance and work schedules playing a factor in their split. “Especially in the racket that I’m in because you’re constantly away or they’re away and so it’s hard. It wasn’t easy on her. It wasn’t easy on me. It wasn’t easy on the kids. So, yeah. The trajectory of that relationship — you play it out until it goes, one thing leads to another...
Depp admitted that he had a messy past with drugs and alcohol, but insisted that he wasn’t using substances following his split from Paradis...
During a hearing on April 19, 2022, Depp seemingly confirmed that he cheated on Paradis with Heard. ...During his testimony, Depp revealed that he first started to develop feelings for Heard after filming a steamy shower scene for their 2011 film...
The actor went on to drop one of the biggest bombshells yet. According to Depp, their onscreen kiss wasn’t the only one to take place during his relationship with Paradis. “We shared a glass of wine and kisses,” Depp revealed, recalling a moment when they spent an evening together in his dressing room...

My point was that just because the others didn't accuse him of violence doesn't mean he wasn't violent with Heard. Face it, they were both violent with each other. They might both be terrific people on their own but together they were awful. So no violence then, I doubt anybody has accused Johnny Depp of being a saint, ever. However, none of his other women have ever accused him of violence apart from Amber Heard, so why is that? Wonder what Kate Moss will have to say about him?
