Not sure what any of that has to do with the Depp v Heard trial, in cricketing parlance you've just bowled a googlie!
There are a bunch of articles about why Heard is so hated on the internet and one of them brought up gamergate.

But basically, Gamergate was this elaborate, I guess you could say, system or network of harassment campaigns that started in the video games sphere and was directed at women in that industry, and then just radiated outward to be this just massive outpouring of misogyny and reactionary politics on the internet...

They have to obey the law. Like any other trial, the Judge will instruct the jury about the law and the facts for deciding a case. My understanding is that it's a simple majority vote. The jury doesn't have to like Heard to agree the Depp hasn't proved defamation.

In most cases women always have to be better than men to succeed. My wife still runs into problems where she asks me to talk to some asshole who is giving her the runaround, presumably because she's a woman. People can listen to phone calls and hear how many men change their tone and demeanor when first talking to a woman and then a man coming on the line. I don't get it, but that's how many are.
Most of these calls were talking to service workers, not NASA engineers. So maybe that's a clue to the problem.

Not a lawyer, but my understanding from a thousand Law & Order episodes is that civil trials are decided by a majority, criminal trials are "beyond a reasonable doubt". This could be a state thing only. IDK
The article/link below hints at a majority vote, but doesn't specify it that I could see. It does give a good synopsis on how the civil court system works. Notice the compensation aspect. Depp could win and be awarded $1.
My understanding of defamation cases is that the rules are a little clearer on how the decision is made.
What do you think are the odds of an out of court settlement? Slim and none? Zero? 50/50?

This is a civil trial, not a criminal case. Neither Heard nor Depp are being tried on any criminal charges.
A civil case is a court case in which a person or entity (the plaintiff) can find another person or entity (the defendant) liable for some type of harm or wrongful act. When someone is sued, this is a civil case.
If the plaintiff is successful, they will normally receive some form of compensation from the defendant.
A civil lawsuit can be brought over anything from a contract dispute or a residential eviction to injuries sustained in a car accident, or countless other harms or disputes.
Civil cases are intended to compensate the person who is harmed rather than punish the defendant. If the defendant loses a civil case they are not convicted of a crime, as they would be in a criminal case, and they do not face prison – even if they are found found liable for conduct which amounts to a criminal act.
The burden of proof is also lighter in a civil case than a criminal case. In a criminal case the defendant’s guilt must be proven “beyond reasonable doubt”, whereas in a civil case the jury simply has to decide which side of the dispute they believe to be more likely.
Civil cases can also be settled out of court. The plaintiff and defendant’s lawyers will often debate and aim to come up with a sum that can be paid to defendant, ending the court case without a need for it to reach its resolution.

Looking over her movie list, I've seen several of them but don't recall her in particular. From what little I've seen of her on the stand, she's a D-list actress. Since the Whores of Babylon believe "There's no such thing as bad publicity", she'll probably be pushed into B-list or higher, rack up the payments and retire with a tidy sum. Depp will continue to make millions, get shitfaced and beat women. The rest of the world will move on to the next celebrity trial.

Depp was married to Vanessa Paradise for 14 years and never even the slightest hint of any violent behaviour. Compare that to Heard where she accused him of many incidents in little over 18 months.

So no violence then, I doubt anybody has accused Johnny Depp of being a saint, ever. However, none of his other women have ever accused him of violence apart from Amber Heard, so why is that? Wonder what Kate Moss will have to say about him?

My point was that just because the others didn't accuse him of violence doesn't mean he wasn't violent with Heard. Face it, they were both violent with each other. They might both be terrific people on their own but together they were awful.
