Alec Baldwin to be charged with involuntary manslaughter in 'Rust' movie set shooting

Baldwin hired an inexperienced armorer to save money. Weapons had already been discharged on the set at least once before. It was Baldwin's responsibility as producer to make sure she was competent and was doing her job. Baldwin had set a deadly situation in motion.Baldwin is certainly at fault also. People had already left the set over safety concerns a few days before this shooting.
 
New Mexico's involuntary manslaughter statute requires only ordinary criminal negligence if a firearm is involved. Baldwin probably has some defense for two of those three elements. I think it'll be tough to get that conviction, but I don't think they are overcharging. My best layman's guess..... they are going to argue that Baldwin didn't know he was holding a firearm. Which is going to be one of those 'define a firearm' kinds of things. When does something go from a prop to an actual firearm. Probably interesting from an academic standpoint. No matter what he will get a short sentence at most.

An innocent person died because of negligence.

I think they got it right. The armorer and the guy with the gun in his hand while it went off , who says he didn’t pull the trigger.
Doesn’t help that he takes no responsibility for this tragedy.

They were target practicing with the guns on the set.

Probably. They also said the tray that they were taking "dummy" ammo from has 5 live rounds on it and Baldwins belt had two in it.

I just told my wife that I wouldn’t point a real unloaded gun at her or anyone else and pull the trigger even after I had just checked it.
FFS, it’s common sense.
