Alabama revels in it's bubbahness

Considering the governors that Louisianna has produced, your remarks are laughable.

I understand you disagree with his religious views, but to call him uneducated is just your pettiness showing thru. You always go on and on about education. Bentley graduated from the UAB medical school. I'd say that pretty well smokes your education.

Having a strong religious belief does not mean "uneducated". But keep trying, Topper.

Topper, it really doesn't mean they aren't educated. I know some very well educated that believe the Christian mythos. They are also very respectful of my beliefs.

I have some friends who know Dr Bentley very well. I think he is going to be the best gov. we have had in a while. But then, the previous idiots haven't set the bar very high. His remarks may seem out of place, but I believe he was speaking of his personal beliefs rather than his administration's intent.

The fact that he is refusing a salary until Alabama is at full employment sounds good to me. At least we save a little bit.

You gotta be freaken kidding me Winter? That's like saying George Wallace is really ok cause he's just talking his personal beliefs, he's a real nice feller and he took a pay cut!

Whether he likes it or not he represents all of Alabama and if he believes that others are not his equals due to his religious beliefs then I don't care how nice a guy he is, he's unfit for public office.

If the man has any brains at all he should make a public apology.

If he really wants to be a brother to people he would accept them as they are but that's asking too much of a closed minded pompous bigot.

Oh jeez, now it sounds to me like you are adamant you don't want to be part ofthe club but you get pissy when someone else is in it.

This is not a big deal. Gov Bentley did not say he wasn't going to treat everyone equally. He claimed a close relationship with others of his faith. Why is that such a big deal?

the article states outrage by critics
no Jesus freak pagans won't get it.
Non science fearing educated folks are the ones saying "he said what"

So someone who didn't fear science is upset?

Like maybe someone who had a double major in Biology and Chemistry and managed to get his Bachelors Degree in 3 years, and then went on to graduate from medical school?

saying only christians are his brothers in a publica forum is beyond retarded. Unless your speaking to a bunch of redneck cousin lovers like Dixie.

He spoke in a church saying that christians are his brothers and sisters. He is saying that he feels a close relationship with those of his faith. He is also inviting anyone to join that faith.

You are making mountains out of molehills here, Topper.

only non christians are outraged

Topper, you oughta know by now that I will jump in with both feet if I think someone is crossing the line between church & state. I have argued with Dixie and SM about this too many time for even your dope addled mind to have missed it.

But I am not outraged at all.

I'm not a born again Jesus freak. He sees me as an enemy or someone to look down at. The last thing on earth I want is to be his 'brother'.

Interesting that you somehow come up with the idea that he sees you as an enemy or someone to look down on.

Can you show me where he said anything close to that?

He did not say anyone was not his equal. He claimed christians as his brothers and sisters, because of the religion they share.

George Wallace worked to keep an entire race in a lower place. Bentley did not do anything of the sort.

He was speaking to a group to which he belongs. The fact that a jew or a pagan or an atheist is not his "brother in faith" does not change the fact that he represents them all as Gov.

He spoke religiously in a religious setting. I don't get all this nonsense. I'm not insulted that I'm not his brother in Christ. I'm sure I'll survive the disappointment.

"Anybody here today who has not accepted Jesus Christ as their savior, I'm telling you, you're not my brother and you're not my sister, and I want to be your brother," Bentley said Monday"

So he's saying that he would like to be my brother but only if I accept Jesus as my savior. Pretty much leaves out Jews, Muslims and most everybody else who's not a fundamentalist Christian. This guy knows his audience.

Were you in attendance at the church where the speech was delivered? If not, he wasn't talking to you. He specified, those who were present, no one else.

I'm really not seeing what the big deal is here, it's been all over the news in Alabama, and I suppose, elsewhere.... what did he say that was so controversial?

WERE YOU THERE IN ATTENDANCE? YES OR FUCKING NO???

See, this really gripes me... The Liberal Pinheads want to "save face" with what the President said in Tucson, by clinging to the phrase "HONEST debate" ...but it THIS your idea of HONESTY? Taking someone's words out of context and pretending he said something he didn't say? You fucktards can't even follow your own president's advice!

what I find particularly ironic is that we have this old white male governor speaking at the Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church on Martin Luther King Day, calling the people there his brothers and sisters and the left attempts to paint it as divisive and hateful......

It seems that some think that no Christian should ever hold public office...and if he does he should never speak as a Christian anywhere. My former high school principal died this week and speaking at his funeral yesterday were two former superintendants (who are SB preachers) and one former congressman (who is an SB preacher) and they made comments along those same lines. It was a private ceremony in a religious setting with mostly religious folks in attendance. Not a big deal. I am not a Southern Baptist but this is what they believe. It was in no way a political venue.

"If anyone from other religions felt disenfranchised by the language, I want to say I am sorry. I am sorry if I offended anyone in any way," he told reporters Wednesday after meeting with leaders of other faiths in his new office."

At least he realized his mistake. Makes him a bit smarter than you 'party over country' idiots.

This is just stupid-

He merely repeated what Christians the world over understand...to be united in Christ is to be brother's and sister's to one another.

As to whether he was wise as a newly elected governor to choose so public a forum, albeit apropriate for the message, is another argument. I mean just look at the hysterics from idgits such as yourself...so predictable!
