AFRICAN IMMIGRANTS HAVE THE HIGHEST ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT IN THE US

Glad you liked that video. She gets that old Gibson humming. That's always my official "dancin'-around-the-kitchen-while-I'm-sweeping-the-floor-and-singin'-with-her" selection. LOL! The woman really does give you happy feet.

Thanks, I did indeed enjoy that.

I'll need to dig deeper into who she was.

I admire you for that. Studying the history of one's ancestors is, I find, riveting and gratifying.
I really need to up my game on African history. I have been studying English, Viking, Greek, and Chinese history recently, but Africa is real a black hole for me!

I am a fan of the scholarly educational Great Courses videos, and I am going to have to search around for this one....

I HIGHLY recommend that you view 'Scandalize My Name" .. especially given your political curiosity and leanings.

Yes, I'm familiar with Hazel Scott...and her mentor, Art Tatum, the phenomenal jazz pianist. And, of course Charlie Mingus as well. I think she also made the move overseas to Paris after the divorce from Adam Clayton Powell.

Hers is one of my favorite piano renditions of Monk's classic 'Round Midnight I keep on hand.............

I bow to your wisdom good sister.

I don't know if it's wisdom. I'm just a huge fan of real jazz. When I was young I loved current pop music. Then I went to N.Y. to pursue modeling right after graduating high school in 1970. Got my first job bartending in Joe Namath's joint (Bachelors III) on 63rd & Lexington. Most all the music of the time was on that juke box so, I fell in love with Al Green, Marvin Gaye and Wilson Pickett. I moved back to Miami in 1971 and applied and was accepted to begin training at the old Playboy Club on 79th street as a bartender. Two weeks into training I went out one night to a jazz club and that was that. I quit training and got a bartending job at that club and never looked back. I was overwhelmed with all these new sounds I was hearing, hence becoming a lifelong jazz fan. I played drums all through high school, but now I switched to bass. I learned a lot from those old jazz pros and had the time of my life working in that atmosphere for about 15 years. I know it's an old-fashioned term, but.......they were some really cool cats! LOL

So what do you do now, are you retired? I guess you must have met a fair few of the jazz greats in your time.

Yes, I met some people of renown. I got out of the bar business entirely in my late 30's. Helping people get drunk didn't appeal to me anymore. Let's just sum it up by saying that Jesus Christ opened my eyes and heart to better ways of helping people and living my life.
Now I have a work-from-home independent contractor job and sell my homemade soaps to supplement my Social Security. Life's peaceful and God is great and has been full of mercy for the likes of me.

Here is a headline you won't see on Fox news or a national news station..

Africans have the highest educational attainment rates of any immigrant group in the United States with higher levels of completion than the stereotyped Asian American model minority. It is not only the first generation that does well, as estimates indicate that a highly disproportionate percentage of black students at elite universities are African or the children of African immigrants.

In an analysis of Census Bureau data by the Journal of Blacks in higher education, African immigrants to the United States were found more likely to be college educated than any other immigrant group. African immigrants to the U.S. are also more highly educated than any other native-born ethnic group including white Americans. Some 48.9 percent of all African immigrants hold a college diploma. This is slightly more than the percentage of Asian immigrants to the U.S., nearly double the rate of native-born white Americans, and nearly four times the rate of native-born African Americans.

In 1997, 19.4 percent of all adult African immigrants in the United States held a graduate degree, compared to 8.1 percent of adult whites and 3.8 percent of adult blacks in the United States, respectively. This information suggests that America has an equally large achievement gap between whites and African/Asian immigrants as it does between white and black Americans.

Of the African-born population in the United States age 25 and older, 86.4% reported having a high school degree or higher, compared with 78. 9% of Asian born immigrants and 76.5% of European born immigrants, respectively. These figures contrast with 61.8% percent of the total foreign-born population.

Data show Nigerians the most educated in the U.S.

BACHELOR'S AND BEYOND
In America, Nigerians' education pursuit is above rest
Whether driven by immigration or family, data show more earn degrees

For Woodlands resident David Olowokere, one of Nigeria's sons, having a master's degree in engineering just wasn't enough for his people back home. So he got a doctorate.

His wife, Shalewa Olowokere, a civil engineer, didn't stop at a bachelor's, either. She went for her master's.

The same obsession with education runs in the Udeh household in Sugar Land. Foluke Udeh and her husband, Nduka, both have master's degrees. Anything less, she reckons, would have amounted to failure.

"If you see an average Nigerian family, everybody has a college degree these days," said Udeh, 32, a physical therapist at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center. "But a post-graduate degree, that's like pride for the family."

Nigerian immigrants have the highest levels of education in this city and the nation, surpassing whites and Asians, according to Census data bolstered by an analysis of 13 annual Houston-area surveys conducted by Rice University.

Although they make up a tiny portion of the U.S. population, a whopping 17 percent of all Nigerians in this country held master's degrees while 4 percent had a doctorate, according to the 2006 American Community Survey conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau. In addition, 37 percent had bachelor's degrees.

Thanks you for posting these inconvenient truths and facts about Marit Based Immagration and Immagrants. I understand that this can be quite embarrassing for your average Bigot and Racist, but it is true regardless. I’d be willing to bet that 99% of the critics don’t even know an Immagrant from either Africa or Haiti. I persoanlly know 4, and out of the 4, 3 are Board Certified Medical Doctors, and the other is a high ranking officer in the Army.

Once these facts are given to them, they’ll switch to other Racial Insulst and Raicst Dog Whistles to appease their racist beliefs.

It’s been proven beyond a shadow of doubt, that Donald Drumpf is certified liar and racist bigot. Those who are embarrassed of him, simply Lie for him. Those who agree with his racist beliefs, make excuses for him. But his own words speaks for him.

Once again, thanks. For posting the truth, no matter how inconvenient it may be for Raicst.
