I went to see Dave Brubeck a few years back when he toured England. I have always loved the Time Out album and his use of quirky time signatures.

the dead sacrificial goats on the side of the road, dog and chicken fights in the glades, fake dental clinics in storage units, counterfeit money, I could go on and on. I even had to get a car inspection to get car insurance account of the fraud.

Not sure about the stats, but I have worked with many many African Immigrants, and am proud to call many of them friend. All of them are self starters, exceptionally mannered and well spoken and very disciplined. It's all in the attitude.
And, you know the irony? Jazz, born in America was always waaaaaay more appreciated all over Europe and Asia than here at home. Sadly it was mainly due to the fact that were far fewer (if any) racial barriers over there. Still, there were enough of us "whities" here that knew brilliant music when we heard it.

I got lucky and started working in jazz clubs in Miami when I was 19...got quite an education.

Africans have the highest educational attainment rates of any immigrant group in the United States with higher levels of completion than the stereotyped Asian American model minority. It is not only the first generation that does well, as estimates indicate that a highly disproportionate percentage of black students at elite universities are African or the children of African immigrants.
In an analysis of Census Bureau data by the Journal of Blacks in higher education, African immigrants to the United States were found more likely to be college educated than any other immigrant group. African immigrants to the U.S. are also more highly educated than any other native-born ethnic group including white Americans. Some 48.9 percent of all African immigrants hold a college diploma. This is slightly more than the percentage of Asian immigrants to the U.S., nearly double the rate of native-born white Americans, and nearly four times the rate of native-born African Americans.
In 1997, 19.4 percent of all adult African immigrants in the United States held a graduate degree, compared to 8.1 percent of adult whites and 3.8 percent of adult blacks in the United States, respectively. This information suggests that America has an equally large achievement gap between whites and African/Asian immigrants as it does between white and black Americans.
Of the African-born population in the United States age 25 and older, 86.4% reported having a high school degree or higher, compared with 78. 9% of Asian born immigrants and 76.5% of European born immigrants, respectively. These figures contrast with 61.8% percent of the total foreign-born population.

The implied purpose of this thread was to show how smart and accomplished they are but if they are getting into universities in part because of that special boost it undermines ops point

Yes that also applied to blues as well. Most of those blues greats couldn't get any work in the US and came over to England. Here is a very famous example, well over here anyway, of Sister Rosetta Tharp playing a TV gig on a disused Manchester railway platform.

No it isn't, no it doesn't.
The purpose of this thread was to demonstrate the known ignorance of Donald Trump, and to piss on the meme that black people are inherently stupid .. that only whites come to this country to excel and become responsible citizens. GPA's don't have shit to do with it, and only introduced into this conversation in a desperate attempt to try to denigrate the accomplishments of African immigrants.
The GPA / affirmative action argument is seriously flawed and decidedly nonintellectual. It's the 'how is it possible that Africans can be as smart of smarter than a white man' argument.
GPA / affirmative action doesn't count in the real world outside of school. In the corporate / business world, performance counts .. and with the application of just a tad bit of intellect, one can quite easily ascertain that if indeed African immigrants are being successful in the corporate / business environment, then quite obviously they are performing to standards and beyond.
