Affordable Care Act

The problem with any discussion around healthcare is that too many think the laws of supply and demand can be put aside. They can not. The law of supply and demand must be obeyed at all times.
I suspect you would say that about the Law of Natural Selection as well.

I believe in natural selection. I however don't make the leap that it by itself is the source of mans existence.

But back to the topic. How do you explain your lower survival rates with cancer. You know with your vaunted NHS.

I don't disagree. I am saying looking at expenditures alone in isolation is no way to measure a country's healthcare.

When you strip away all of the bullshit and look at the one measure that can be attributed to how well a healthcare system works, look no further than our cancer survival rates compared to the rest of the world.
Well they are not that wonderful but then again neither is the UK. However much of that I suspect is down to lifestyle and diet.

It has been recognised as one of the weaknesses in the system and measures are being taken to address that. Of course the best way of all is to induce the public to live healthier and not live on a diet of fast food and ready made meals and to take regular exercise.

Republicans are preparing to take a major vote this week aimed at repealing Obamacare -- but the drumbeat of concern within GOP ranks about the lack of a replacement is growing louder.

the issue isn't IF.......the issue is WHEN.....

The whole system is just hideously complex and opaque, how anybody can say this is actually better than government run is beyond me! The bureaucracy in the US system is labyrinthine in its complexity. Small wonder that costs are so opaque and unaccountable.

Can somebody tell me why Medicare is prohibited by Federal law from bargaining on drug prices? The present situation is just crazy, basically take it or leave it. Who created such a system?

Because the government doesn't "negotiate"

Look I agree the "old" system was complex but it wasn't because of the private sector it was because of government.

But as long as people want someone else to pay their medical bills we will have a mess

But why, what is the rationale behind it? The NHS negotiates bulk discounts all the time.

Ok I see now, basically Big Pharma lobbyists wrote that bill to protect profits. If Trump makes good on his promise to reduce the lobbyists and stop the revolving door of government people going straight into industry as lobbyists, then maybe this shit can be stopped.
