What I find most striking about most "skeptics" is the fervor with which they hold their opinions. I mean, it's one thing to be agnostic on the question. I suppose I could understand that. But no skeptic I have ever met is agnostic. Instead, they know that the science is all wrong and that they are right and fuck you!

In my experience it is exactly diametrically opposite to what you are saying for the most part. Most sceptics are just that i.e. sceptics who say that the evidence for CO2 forcing on a significant scale is patchy at best. What most sceptics will say is that it is profoundly stupid to throw huge amounts of resources at a problem without being sure of the underlying mechanisms. By contrast it is AGW believers who seem unable to differentiate between the science and the politics of the issue which is why so many on the Left see the issue as a crisis of capitalism and their chance to game the system.

Whilst the West hum and haws the Chinese are quietly getting on building new nuclear plants.

  • Mainland China has 14 nuclear power reactors in operation, more than 25 under construction, and more about to start construction soon.
  • Additional reactors are planned, including some of the world's most advanced, to give a five- or six-fold increase in nuclear capacity to at least 60 GWe by 2020, then 200 GWe by 2030, and 400 GWe by 2050.
  • China is rapidly becoming self-sufficient in reactor design and construction, as well as other aspects of the fuel cycle.

My friend, a Coast Guard member, told me to tell you, it is their job, it is what they train to do. They will not take unreasonable risk, but their job is to rescue people, save lives.

Great observation. THey are not skeptics - they are people with an agenda.
 
The thirties were a pretty hot decade, and the forties were not any hotter, unless you found yourself standing in places like Dresden and Hiroshima on the wrong day...

IOW, the contribution of humans to the weather patterns.
