Speaking of hate-filled PM's, I got a hate-filled wall post from Darla because I tried to give her a little helpful advice when someone was flaming her. It turns out the moderators did have to have a discussion about whether her responses warranted a ban, after all. It's possible that I helped prevent that from happening by stepping in. Now, I wish I had not, because there was no benefit to me in the matter. However, on occasion, I like to be of assistance to fellow JPP posters, offering advice about military options, moves to the Seattle area, and other such things. Anyway, I assume Darla will never admit I had altruistic intentions, because I am a ball-swinging male who could never possibly be of any assistance to her...

They stayed because they ignored evac orders. Why do you immediately call them idiots who are incapable of understanding that when authorities say 'get out, your life is in danger'... that they mean it?

You are the one who doesn't give a shit about the lives of the people that now have to go into harms way. If the idiots had evacuated when told, that would not be happening.

There is the story about Fire Island. No one was left to die, but at some point rescue people could not reach them. They were there early this morning. HOpefully nobody died. NO I don't think anyone should be left to die for not leaving. As you can see in that story in other communities here, that were reachable, rescue personnel risked their lives to get them. No one is left to die. Now, whether they should face some civil penalities afterwards or not is another issue. I think they should. I know some idiots who were actually surfing on the beaches yesterday were cited and have to appear in court. But the people who stayed on fire island, I don't know what they were thinking, but they were probably thinking that this was going to be a big overblown bs thing from the media. People are cynical because the media has been known to do that. Yes, others are stupid. But we don't execute people for being stupid in this country.
 
Kinda brings to light why I said to the original responses to this thread that they were the type of talk that gets people killed.

So let me get this straight... you think we should risk peoples lives to save those who refused to get the fuck out when told there was imminent danger?

If a high rise building was on fire and someone refused to leave because 'their floor wasn't burning'... would you also send a firefighter in to save them once they realized that 'oh shit, I am in danger'?

It isn't about 'punishing' them desh, that is simply an ignorant straw man. They made a choice to stay. Other people should not have to risk their lives because those that stayed realized they made a poor choice.

Again... the fact that you don't give a shit about the lives of the rescue workers is very telling.

Rescue workers know very well they will be rescuing some who made stupid mistakes or decisions. That comes with the job. They take that on willingly. They are highly trained to enter those situations and not lose their lives, however, risk is inherent in their jobs. Accusing desh of not giving a shit about their lives is like accusing them of not giving a shit about their own lives. Just say thank you to them and shut up.
