Couldnt have been 1000.00 a MONTH,...you must mean week. In Wisconsin with its much lower cost of living than New York the state paid out 375 per WEEK in unemployment benefits and the feds added another 600.00 to make it a total of 975.00 PER WEEK. Plus the 600.00 from federal was tax free.

I keep an eye on what the corrupt and powerful do. They are buying up homes all over the country and paying 40 and 50% higher than the closest offer just to get the property. They are buying everything including absolute dumps. Here is my theory........ We are headed for a massive crash. When it comes it will take down half the damn country if not more. People will be unable to pay their mortgages or rent and will end up homeless and need somewhere to live. We all know how government funding works. When you sell something to uncle Sam you charge them 3 or 4 times MORE than you would sell it to someone else for.
Those that bought the houses will then turn around and sell them to the government for MASSIVE profits. Those houses will then be converted by the Govt into section 8 homes and the homeless and poor will live there.
There is a reason these corporations are buying up homes at 40% OVER market price,....hint...it is NOT to lose money.
It will create a large construction industry boom though when it comes to remodeling. They arent going to put a family of people who never had a nickle in their lives in a big beautiful home. Thats just silly. They will however remodel that home and turn it from a large home for one family into a a three unit type deal, if not four.
One of my best friends owns literally 54 separate homes that he rents out, mostly all in one town. He got into the biz like 40 years ago. Pretty wealthy guy now. Half of them are pretty damn dumpy, the other half range from perfectly fine to quite nice. Thats why I always tease him and call him HALF a slum lord. He is getting pretty old now and has been after me for a couple years to take some of them off his hands. I keep telling him I would but you have to leave more meat on the bone for ME! 
I just might take him up on his offer if he comes down a little bit the more this thing goes. The guy rarely watches tv and never goes on line,...he's old. I just hope he doesnt find out what the big boys are willing to pay!
