When the Jews were kicked out of the Holy Land by the Romans, they didn't succeed in purging all. Some Jews subsequently did return to their homeland sometime after the Diaspora. When the Muslim Empire invaded the Holy Land, it wasn't Jew-free, many of the Jewish people there mixed with the conquering Arabs. Later, they were conquered by the Ottoman Turks, and then by the British, so many "Palestinians" and Israeli Arabs have Jewish ancestry in them which makes this issue on turf ownership much more complicated. Why do you only worry about Palestine why not Karelia, the right arm of Finland, conquered by the Russians and and never given back? Why was Lahore, a mainly Sikh city, handed to the newly formed Pakistan in 1947?
