7 dead in shootings at 3 massage parlors across metro Atlanta

No one's trying to take any guns away by offering to overpay for them.

Sure, but could you say the same thing about the other people who live in your house or theirs?

You might not want to sell your gun back for a few grand, but someone else in your house might.

If people are the problem, then why do you want to give the problem guns?

Yeah sure your not, so what happens when the program Fails, then what?

There are only two people in my home and neither of us would turn in anything. As I have said I have had this discussion with Friends and Family, 100% say they are not giving up their firearms, maybe people in your area think differently.

I want to help the People by giving them the professional help they need and a good start is to stop sweeping the mental health issue under the rug and pretending that it does not exist. The other side of the coin is I want criminals that use guns to commit their crimes with a gun to have the book thrown at them, meaning an Extra 10 years in Prison on top of any other sentence they may get.

So many? Are Christians actually doing the shooting! I can also say, if they are murdering then they are not Christians at all!

True and Christian can claim they are doing good works, but then do the opposite. Most would condemn a Church shooting but be silent when an abortion doctor is murdered, which is also against Gods Law.

Matt, you still believe COVID is a fake virus, that Trump is the real president, that Antifa attacked the Capitol and that Biden is a pedophile.

It's not difficult to imagine you believe all church shootings were done by Jews and Muslims.....or space aliens.

We won't know if it fails until we try it.

What I think would happen is that there would be some "gun owners" who don't want the cash, but I think there are millions of others who would want the cash.

And I think there are millions of people who are friends/family of those "gun owners" who would take those guns from them and turn them in for cash if the program was anonymous and no-questions-asked.

And I think that many of those "gun owners" who didn't want to cash in their guns would see the millions of others who did and who got a lot of money for them, and they would eventually turn their guns in because of FOMO.

What I would love to see happen is thousands of kids and teenagers stealing their parents' or relatives' guns and turning them in for cash to pay for things like health care or tuition.

But I would put a timer on the program...so it would only last for a year or so. Then afterward, no more cash for guns. So people will have missed out because of their intransigence and paranoia...unless their family members made the decision for them.

You say that...but...I think you could probably use several thousand dollars more than you could use a gun. Do you really believe your partner wouldn't turn the guns in if it, say, meant $10,000? Cuz that's a lot of money to turn down.

As I have said I have had this discussion with Friends and Family, 100% say they are not giving up their firearms, maybe people in your area think differently.

I think if posed with the choice between let's say, $30,000 or their guns, that most of them will choose the $30K.

And the ones that don't will just have to be happy sitting at home with their guns while everyone else is out spending their money and having fun.

Mental health is not to blame for someone to make the choice to kill with their gun, and I really hate it when people blame mental health for gun violence.

It's not mental health that is the issue...the issue is the ease of accessibility of firearms.

The Nazi who shot up the businesses here in Atlanta bought his gun that same day.

He's not mentally ill...he's Christian. He's white. He's a guy. That's why he shot up those businesses. That's why most of these mass shooters did what they did.

If you think he's mentally ill, then what mental illness did he have that caused him to go and kill 8 people? Racism isn't a mental illness, and neither is misogyny.

Or, you could just ban gun ownership and not have to deal with this problem at all.

I would add that he, like another idiot on this board that started a thread saying 27.5% of attacks on Asians was by blacks, while forgetting that there is still 72.5% of attackers that are not done by blacks, I wonder who they would be.

That said, we really do not know the motive here, it could be an Asian thing or it could be a massage parlor/morals thing, I think we need to wait for that information to come out before jumping to conclusions.

The apparent motive was sexual. A spree killer getting "those girls back" that he paid for sex. He apparently thought, in his delusion, that he was fixing a sexual addiction by doing this.

You can try, I am just telling you that it will not work, but hey go for it.

Anyone taking someone else's guns and turning them in would be guilty of grand theft, and end up in prison, and I doubt the person that owned them would not press charges.

Nope do not need the money, not tooting my horn but I am what you would call pretty well off and completely Debt Free, other than the credit cards we use during the month and pay off at the end of the month. I own all my property 10 acres total, two homes, two barns, a work shop, three cars and one truck, one motorcycle, two boats, one UTV, and two ATV's, and one Tractor, all of which is paid for free and clear. We were smart with our money.

LOL, you are never going to convince any Fed or State government to pay $30k for a $700 AR or handgun, dream on. At that rate and I turned in everything I would make nearly a Million dollars, ROTFLMAO! good joke.....

People that think it is a good idea to go out and kill as many people are Nuts, I don't care if they consider themselves a Christian, White Supremist, Anarchist, or the Sword of God, they are Certifiably Nuts and rarely do they not give any indications that they are nuts.

Again, yes you will have to deal with them, there are many ways to attack people, some far more deadly than someone with a handgun, and those determined to do so may be crazy but can still find a way to get it done.

Which is right along the lines that I suggested might be the issue, the boy ain't right in the head, but then again none of these kinds of shooters ever are right in the head, normal people do not have Kill Everyone as one of their options on how to handle a problem.

I just read there is an eye witness who claims the guy yelled he wanted to kill all Asians, but it really doesn’t matter because with 8 murders, this guy will never see another day outside a maximum security prison.

Since we don't have gun registries in the US, we have no way of matching any single gun to any single person, do we?

You're the first person I've ever heard say that they don't want free money.

Then what would it take to buy the gun back from someone? Because everyone has a price.

So...you can't really ascribe this to mental illness because mass murder is not a symptom of any singular mental illness.

Mental illness is a convenient distraction from the real cause of gun violence, which are the guns.

So if we want to stigmatize mental illness as the excuse for gun violence, then taking that through to its most reasonable conclusion, would mean that in order to get a gun, you would need to first pass a mental health examination.

And we would need to do that for every single gun owner in the US, AND it would need to be repeated every year. So those millions of gun owners would need to go see a shrink every single year. That's where the "mental health" excuse goes...to mandatory, annual (or semi-annual) mental health screenings.

Realistically, do you think most gun owners would submit to annual or semi-annual mental health examinations and evaluations?
