67 degrees in Alaska? Climate change continues to topple temperature records

Climate change is EXACTLY like COVID.

It has become more & more clear that humanity needs to act, and act soon, to stave off a real crisis. But for the right, it has become purely political. The idea of climate change is a punchline for most conservatives.

It's a shame. Even if you don't buy into AGW, our current way of life - factoring in population growth - is completely unsustainable. That's not even marginally disputable.

What caused the climate to change and warm up and melt away the Ice Age?

It's amazing that people think we can just continue this way without severe ramifications.

Think about the timeframe since the Industrial Revolution. Think about how much habitat we have lost in that very short period of time. How much coastline, how many species, how much arable farmland, how many waterways.

We can be kind of a sad, shortsighted species. There are intelligent people out there who can improve things, but they don't have much power right now. Even the allocation for climate change in the BBB bill is pretty token.

Exactly. There are always people like Sailor would screech about it being a weather and not a climate.

A climate is an average of weather in an area over a period of time. When you observe weathers changing and moving consistently across different areas, it is clear that the climate is shifting.

Black kitty, please. When unusually cold weather happens your side of the aisle "screehes about" weather not being climate.

When the cold weather is unusual and persists, it may be due to climate warming.

It is a dynamic. The Earth keeps trying to correct itself.

Conservatives always seem to go for some sort of "gotcha" instead of actually talking about the problem. Like going back to early in COVID when Fauci wasn't recommending masks early on - the whole debate about masks became that, instead of whether they work or not.

They always go back to when scientists were predicting an ice age, or some other argument made in the past. As though that delegitimizes all of science.

On Sunday, the temperature in Kodiak, Alaska, hit 67 degrees Fahrenheit, setting a December record-high for a state that has become used to them as climate change continues to rewrite history.

The temperature readings in Kodiak did not merely edge out some previous record by a degree or two; the 65 degrees reported at the airport was 20 degrees higher than the previous high temperature record of 45 degrees set on Dec. 26, 1984, the National Weather Service reported.

According to the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration, Alaska is warming faster than any other U.S. state and twice as quickly as the global average since the middle of the 20th century.

hard to believe Trumpists keep denying the obvious, heads firmly planted up their asses, clueless to the end

Gore made this a central issue in 2000. Somehow Oilman Bush got elected. By the way, I'm in New Orleans and it's 84 degrees outside. Doesn't really feel like December 29th here.

What caused that? Wasn't man! ..In any way

It started to shift in 1995...so what caused that?

So, because man didn't cause the end of the last ice age - he's not causing anything now?

Honestly, I can't even really argue this seriously. This goes well beyond AGW. What we do & how we do it is simply not sustainable for the long term. And we don't really have anywhere else to go after we waste this planet.

Government bullshit reason to tax etc

Man had nothing to do with the Climate Change during the Ice Age, and not now

What caused the Medieval Warm Period?

What caused all the drastic changes in climate before 1970 back 10k years?

What caused The city of Dwarka, that was discovered submerged some 100-feet below the Gulf of Cambay in 1988. Ancient structures, pillars, grids of a city, and ancient artifacts were found. To be covered in water?

What caused the city of Pavlopetri to be flooded with water 5000 years ago? If that happened now u would blame man made climate change

Fools would think that an erupting volcano is not proof of molten magma below the surface.

Texas sharpshooter fallacy. What do volcanic eruptions--as a mechanism--have to do with Gorebal Warming and the weather? Only a fool would use such an idiotic analogy to explain something unrelated to it and expect their argument to stand. The Texas sharpshooter fallacy started when you proclaimed that a single data point was proof of Gorebal Warming. I countered with a second example to show how absurd that is. Now you come up with something totally unrelated as a red herring to try and recover. It won't work.
