These illegals (non-citizens) wake up one morning and decide to come to America and violate our immigration laws.
Arrest and deport when they enter illegally and ask for asylum.

Of course there's that side, which is the norm this time of year. Well, it's the norm on cable news all year, but it's ramped up this time of year to get out the vote and score political points.
Even it's being done for the wrong reasons, I suspect it will force the Biden admin to take some kind of action to mitigate the issue.

It's not a problem for me if California wants to absorb the cost of illegals, as long as they don't get any federal money to do it, but the taxes paid by illegals probably isn't coming close to covering the costs. The same article I linked above shows that, federally, the estimated 12.5 million illegals paid about 19 billion in federal taxes.
The costs of illegal immigration are comprehensive. Even after deducting the $19 billion in taxes paid by illegal immigrants, the 12.5 million of them living in the country results in a $116 billion burden on the economy and taxpayers each year. About two-thirds of this amount is absorbed by local and state taxpayers, who are often the least unable to share the costs.
But, again, I was making the point that the $618k is a drop in the bucket.
