517,000 jobs created in january

Hello Concart,

Agree. Want to put people back to work? Make it worthwhile. A single mom with two kids can't afford to pay day care and lose any benefits they might have. Raise the minimum wage, provide free child care for working mothers, and they will go back to work. Which is good. But the GOP is not interested in that approach. Instead, they want to give money to rich people who will supposedly create jobs. They never have and they never will. Instead, that approach just adds to the national debt and lines the pockets of shareholders.

Yes! A federal government daycare program. States won't do it. And it is a common need throughout the country.

It fulfills this part of the Constitution preamble: "Insure the general welfare."

Republicans are all too quick to fall in line with what the super-rich want - reduce government programs and reduced taxes. People need to stop buying in to the propaganda of the super-rich. People need to understand the super-rich pay a lot of money to produce that propaganda because it works.

Conservatives - Don't be a pawn for the super-rich. If you are not super-rich yourself then stop being a pawn for them. Stop voting against your own better interest. It is ridiculous to be cash-strapped, struggling to get by, and helping the super-rich make life even tougher on you by voting for Republicans and their culture wars. Democrats have your better interest in mind. Democrats want to make life better for all Americans, not just the super-rich.

Should we also look up the labor participation rate or no?

Half a million more people participating in the workforce. Much higher workforce participation than during the 1950's/1960's/1970's.

I am beginning to go back to worrying that we are going back to too high workforce participation. You do realize that we can have too high workforce participation, right?

It is kinda of ironic to hear Stone, without a job, giving a Stalinist rant about how everyone must have a job.

I question them all the time, and have consistently done so on this board for the sort of reason I gave above.

Can you link to an example of a thread started by a Republican singing the praises of the Trump economy, and you jumped into downplay and question the validity of the numbers?

trump said that Obama's unemployment numbers were fake. If they were fake, there would either need to be a massive readjustment of numbers when trump came to office, or his numbers would be fake also. There was no massive readjustment of numbers, so we are left with two options, either trump continued Obama's great numbers for a few years(before collapsing), or trump continued Obama's fraud.

In recent years, fewer women are working, fewer teenagers are working, and the baby boomers turned retirement age. So of course the rate was going to go down. It went down because people VOLUNTARILY chose not to work.

yes......2020 and 2021 when the government forced businesses to close and paid people who stayed home........now, because of Biden's inflation, more people need to go back to work so they can buy gasoline and buy eggs......

So it's up. The fact that I didn't bother to look tells you how I feel about the rate. But it is good news. I'd like to look at the crosstabs and see where the jobs are being created.

my guess is California, which perviously still had the highest unemployment and the highest cost of living and the most government handouts.....

California has the 13th highest unemployment. I doubt it has ever had the highest unemployment. Likewise, it has the fourth highest cost of living. Hawaii definitely always has the highest cost of living, it is a tiny group of islands in the middle of nowhere. Government handouts can be calculated in many different ways, but most point to Alaska as having the most government handouts.

And even more suspicious -- they only make up the good numbers when a Democrat is POTUS. Otherwise they're all fake.

Gardner, like most of the other JPP Nazi/Trumpers doesn't understand a single thing about economics, even the basics of how numbers are determined. The unemployment rate is an entirely separate metric from the number of jobs created. His complete lack of knowledge on that basic tenant makes him post utterly stupid shit that someone has to correct. That's the real problem on JPP, we spend so much time debunking the bullshit that there is almost no time for actual discussions.

They get this nonsense from RW media and believe that if it's on TV/the Internet, it's true. Unless of course it's on a "fake news" site, which is all legitimate, credible news organizations. lol

The pathetic thing about most RWers is that they are simplistic people. They struggle to understand complex issues -- like the economy -- and think in terms of simplistic solutions to those issues. Illegal immigration is a good example. Their solution? Build a giant multibillion dollar wall and we're done. They don't want to discuss or address the reasons why we have illegal immigration, which would lead to workable solutions.

What's going on in FL is another example. We all agree that child abuse/molestation/trafficking/assault is a problem. FL's solution? Ban books from public schools that even mention LGBTQ characters. Ditto for dealing with racism and discrimination -- call any mention of that "CRT" and ban it because it hurts white kids' feelz. If you don't see it, it ceases to exist.

They're all fake numbers when you use the U-3. Obama's, Trump's, now Biden's.

If a Republican was Prez right now, every righty here would be proclaiming this the best economy in the history of the world.

Close to 12 million jobs, in 2 years.

I would still look at the labor utilization rate and other metrics and decide on that basis if the stat was valid or not. Biden's "close to 12 million jobs" is like 90% + the economy reopening and nothing more. The labor utilization rate shows that.

I'm far more inclined to believe Mike Rowe's claim that millions of men are opting out of the labor force. That makes them invisible to the U-3, while it shows up by a low labor utilization rate on that metric.

it and several other blue states vie for the honor....
California...4.1

Ohio.........4.2
Washington...4.2
Alaska......4.3
Michigan...4.3
New York..4.3
Delaware..4.4

Why does California have the highest jobless rate in the country?
BY GRACE GEDYE DECEMBER 10, 2021UPDATED DECEMBER 12, 2021

IN SUMMARY

California has the highest unemployment rate in the country. Several factors are contributing, including the state’s slow-to-rebound leisure and hospitality sectors. But the state has a lot of job openings, and high quit rates suggest workers are optimistic they can find better positions.

So because the numbers do not prove what you want them to prove, they are fake numbers?

If they proved what they claim to prove, I wouldn't disagree with them. But as Mark Twain said...

So somehow the statistics were fine for the first two years of trump, but anything before or after that are lies? If one set of statistics were a lie, and the next were not, then there would be a break. Instead, it is continuous.
