Your wait is over. November is Native American Heritage Month. It has been for a decade.
Whites routinely self-identify with their ethnic group. Billions of times in my life I've heard whites self-identify as irish-americans, italian-americans, and greek-americans. And their are holidays that celebrate those european ethnic groups.
I don't get the outrage about people identifying as african-americans. Where's the equivalent outrage about people identifying as Irish-americans?
First, blacks can't identify with a specific national identity. They were brought here as slaves, and cannot identify as Nigerian-americans or Ivory-coast americans. Second, those countries are recent constructs derived from european colonial boundaries.
Third, if any one wants to whine about black-americans broadly identifying with their african ancestory, without regard to specific national boundaries, we white dudes only have ourselves to blame. Who was it that spent 400 years lumping all blacks into one generic category, stereotype, or caricature.
White dudes. That's who did it.
